A brilliant wonderful place. Beautifully restored. Obviously the access issues up stairs are difficult. But more could be done om the ground floor yo set the scene. Perhaps offering a virtual tour to those who can't do tge stairs. Also more about Morris as a political force. Staff and volunteers brilliant. Below the great rooms you can't get too if you don't do steep stairs.
Only the ground floor of the house is disabled-accessible, which is a pity because some of the upper floor contents and views are really nice. The rise to the top floor in particular consists of a split, asymmetric staircase in which the left and right sides are at alternating levels, which needs conscious attention to get up without tripping. It's an amazing museum of the arts and crafts movement The gardens make a pleasant walk. The restaurant food is excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful. The gift shop varies oriented that reflect there origins of the house. a the restrooms were modern, week maintained and very clean. It's a fair walk from the car park to the manor, though there is a small shuttle bus for those who need it. I do mean small. Parking: Some distance from the manor. Basically a field though with a brick-paved entrance from the road.
Historic house and pilgrimage for lovers of graphic design and furniture. Do park in the field next to the church and walk 10 minutes to the Manor House. As there is no where to park cars near the house. The walk also gives an opportunity to see the lovely houses in the village. Since the £6M refurbishment, the house is looking fantastic and more like a home that the family would recognise. The pains taking research into the original layout and artifacts has returned the Manor House to an authentic marvel. We were fortunate to have a guided tour but there's plenty of information boards for self guided visitors. Absolute gem.
Not just a Manor house... Nestled in the village of Kelmscott William Morris's abode. You park around ¼ mile away but there is a shuttle bus if the walk is too much. Next to the car park is the church he and family members are buried. You criss the road passing the Morris Memorial Hall as you continue passing Memorial cottages, the Manor Cottages and a rather nice village pub not frequented and on to Kelmscott Manor. Recently restored and a fabulous collection of buildings. An absolute beauty to visit and don't forget to play some lawn games, my first time at croquet and now I want a set. Have a marvellous time when you visit
William Morris fans will love this interesting house with its grounds & gardens. All the volunteers were very knowledgeable and friendly. The gardens were suffering from the drought when we visited. The cafe menu looked nice but it was busy and there was a good pub just up the road the plough inn. Saw a kingfisher flying up the stream. 50% of the tickets are kept for people who turn up but you can book online if you want to guarantee an entry time slot..
William Morris home, carrying some serious old art through as well Durer etc. If you're around, definitely a go see. Red House arguably my favourite, but that's somewhere else!
Wonderful cottage with beautiful garden. Exceptional volunteers who are hugely passionate about William Morris. Highly recommended!
Wonderful house. Fantastic atmosphere and scenery. William Morris at his best. Staffed by extremely helpful and knowledgeable people. You know why Morris loved this place. Interesting shop and a super tea room. Lovely to sit in the garden and look at the willow and mulberry tree and think about the inspiration from nature. Fabulous afternoon.
Reopened this year and just as lovely as ever. It's not too hard to imagine yourself living there in Morris's 'nowhere'. Plus you can easily take gorgeous walks along the Thames.
Really interesting seeing and hearing about William Morris. His house was a fascinating glimpse into Victorian life. The house has been preserved as he would have lived there. Very knowledgeable and friendly guides.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
