After checking the opening times on the website, we drove directly to John Long's. The store was open until 5.00pm and we arrived shortly before 4.45pm to find two salesmen in the carpet section. All the lights were out in the furniture department and we were told that section was closed, as we were informed that Kath and another person (whose name escapes me at present) had already left. It was suggested we returned another day. I told them that we'd read the store was open until 5pm and that we'd made a special journey for the sole purpose of visiting the store.  I had to actually ask for the lights to be turned on so that we could look at the furniture! Only a third of the lights for the right hand section of the store were turned on and unless I used the torch on my phone, I didn't stand a chance of actually seeing things properly. After five minutes and nearly falling over a chair that was left open in the reclining position towards the back left of the store, we decided it was completely hopeless and left. As we left, the lights on the rest of the store were turned on. 
It was also suggested that we returned another day as the two people in the carpet section were unable to help us anyway.
In my youth, the name John Long was held in very high regard. We were bitterly disappointed with our visit. When we arrived home and read the store reviews, it is clear that the store with the name John Long that I knew of so well in my childhood, has very much disappeared in the long and distant past.

In response to your reply. I can assure you that we were there before 4.45 and you had already left. You will find that reclining chair at the back left of your showroom.

Appalling customer services. Have taken £1,500 off my elderly disabled mother for an electric bed. After 8 weeks we are still waiting even for an estimated delivery date. If you manage to get somebody to answer the phone they tell you they will phone you back in 5 minutes. Surprise surprise no return call. Trading standards phoned today. This company needs to be stopped seems after reading customer reviews on here we are not the only people to suffer by this company
