Where to begin? If you are planning on using Valentines Removals, you have no doubt received- or are about to receive- a quote from them whereby you'll be inundated with unrivalled reviews of how "fantastic" their service is! Sound familiar? This was the convincing factor for us in choosing to use Valentine's Doncaster and believing that they could be relied upon for a courteous, decent service. And here the absolute nightmare of our move ensued. After having all our personal possessions loaded into a shabby, unmarked former Argos van with little to no care we were told by the removal men at Valentines Removals that they were familiar with the area we'd be moving to as they served prison time there and knew it well. Kindly then told that they would be using the cafe around the corner for the next two hours we'd paid for and felt bullied into "keeping quiet to the boss" (Jo) as they had all of our possessions to ransom and didn't want anything to be deliberately broken. As we'd paid for approx 3 hours and they disappeared after 1 hour, they managed to make more £ by the hour than a fully qualified medical surgeon; on that note they do run a very successful business. Fast forward sevaral nail-biting weeks worrying about the state our furtniture would come back to us. Convinced by Jo, the manager/owner that it would suit Valentines for us to continue to store our furniture with them after we collected our keys we agreed to a move-in date and anxiously waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. Despite having agreed that the removal men would be with us first thing in the morning around 9am, 5pm came around and we still had no furniture. 8 HOURS we spent in a completely empty house with a 1 year old- with no fridge, no freezer, no pots, pans, no sofa, no seats- you get the idea. The worst part about the whole experience was the dishonesty by Jo, the owner or Valentines Removals keeping us hanging on in the house hoping that at any time they might arrive. Several very unprofessional, unapologetic, dishonest conversations later we felt completely crushed. On a Saturday night sometime after 5pm our furniture arrived, our daughter screaming and tired; my partner then had to go to work a night shift as hospital staff and I was left in my own with boxes on boxes on boxes- in tears and feeling completely helpless. I had told Jo that the friends/family I had recruited to help me move in would not be able to stay past 2pm and so unsurprisingly I had no other help at this point and nowhere else to go. What was most offensive about the situation is that I had asked Valentines, by about 3pm (at no added expense to them!) if i should book a hotel and was reassured I would have all the help I needed to safely put my daughter to sleep in a cot. A far cry from this, the removal men didn't even put labelled boxes in rooms. Boxes were blocking doors, stacked in huge towers, scattered around in a haphazard fashion that looked like a 5 year old's forte. Fast forward a couple more days whereby I had begun moving the boxes-on-boxes-on-boxes and at this point, I would ideally include an image of my face as it "looks now" after an accident falling forwards onto our tiled floor and losing consciousness thanks to a pillar of boxes left blocking the path of my bathroom door; 9 stitches, a broken nose, a black eye, unable to drive due to concussion later - the list really could go on. Valentines have all too happily kept the money owed to me, ruined the first week in our new "home", broken bits of furniture (happy to provide photos taken on the move-in day to evidence this) and have helped me to permanently scar my face (happy to validate that too). The result? Out of all of this, I would rather never have to hear from this business again than claim back anything owed to me. I wish I had known then what I know now- you have been warned.
