Undoubtedly an architectural and design marvel. Huge atriums and acres of space. Beautiful to the outsider. A real stand out facility for the campus.nnI also appreciate some design elements are maybe unfavourable to those in academic studies as noted in other reviews. There is a lack of seating with desks, the food is overpriced and with such a vacuous space the thermals are volatile.
This is a big building and as the name suggests, it serves a multi-purpose venue for conference, shows, group meeting, individual or group study space, etc. There are escalators. The design of the interior is modern. It's part of the University of Glasgow building complexes.nnThere is a nearby tube station and bus stop to get here or go from here.
The building of the university is undoubtedly an architectural marvel, but certain parts of it lack character and feel empty. It is paradoxical that the university is facing a space crunch, while there are many unused spaces in this building like the large atriums that seem to prioritize aesthetics over functionality.nnThe building is also uncomfortably cold, with many visitors and staff members wearing their coats, including a staff member who was seen wearing a scarf.nnThe sensors for flushing the toilets are poorly positioned and overly sensitive, often triggering flushes when not desired, and a number of the toilets were also out of order.nnThe hot food options are generally good, although over two days, none of the three cafes in the building had hot chocolate available, as they were waiting for new stock.
Open for the public until 6pm, pretty good spaces but often too busy to really do anything useful
As a writer looking for great spaces to write and feel comfortable in, then the James McCune hub is brilliant.nnThe architecture is amazing and can, at first, feel a bit intimidating. A quick tour of the building and the facilities reveal a well thought out space.nnAlthough designed for students of Glasgow University it is open to the public between 8am and 8pm.nnIt is airy, cool and you'll always find a place to sit whether by yourself or with friends.nnThere' are a few cafes in the hub too so you could spend all day here if you're studying.nnI have tried a few libraries, which were great, but too small and this place is just perfect and has everything I need to spend all day writing.
