Been here twice now and the food whilst simple is really good. On both occasions we have had a wrap, salad or sandwich and they have all been fresh, tasty and good value. The coffee size is generous and you can mix and match almost anything on the menu to suit your dietary requirements. The staff are friendly and whilst it's not as classy inside as some of the other places near by its lighter lunch options make it great if you don't want a large meal.
Great panini, perhaps the best in St Albans. Can’t fault the full English breakfast either, a very well balanced meal which is priced fairly. They seem to be a bit forgetful though, as I’ve had to go back a few times for items they left out of my order. I’m sure they will improve over time.
Great service, very friendly but the food was dissapointing for the price. The coffee was fine, as was my salt beef sandwich. The accompanying salad was underwhelming though, just lettuce and tomato with a vinegarette. The avocado and poached eggs weren't great. I'd expect the avocado to be smashed with some lime and salt etc..., but it was put on top of the toast whole which made the whole thing fairly dry.
Shocking!! I use to love this place when i lived in st albans and its going realy down hill!!! Super expensive for poor food and bad service!! Today we had a classic burger which was a burger that was not great tasting in bun no salad ?!?, no sauces offered with food i had to ask for them and they were provided eventually and slammed on our table. Warm diet coke, with no ice, had to ask for ice and they had it....my husband sandwich was hardly full of filling and my friends omelet with salmon, the salmon had not been mixed. I wont be going again!
I have been here many times over the years when it was run by the original owner. I returned to a dirty restaurant with overinflated prices for supermarket cheap basic quality ingredients. The chicken was a grey coloured chewing substance whilst the ham was plain tasteless. I was surprised to have a can of Fanta plonked on the table without a glass. Service is unfriendly. On entering the restaurant, we were asked if we were takeout or waitress service..what about a hello? The toilets were filthy. The staff could be heard gossiping about a member of staff which was unprofessional and unfriendly. The prices here are high but the food quality was naff. We will not return. Fortunately, there are better places to eat here.
Only go to this restaurant if you're happy with being completely ripped off. Yes the food is good, and most of the staff are lovely, but I was treated like an absolute idiot by one of the managers the one without glasses. I purchased a wrap one day and ate it in the restaurant. I was charged £3.50, which is fairly expensive for a prawn mayo wrap with a bit of rocket, but it's St Albans. I then went in the following day and ordered the same thing, to eat in the restaurant. When I came to pay I was told that it was over £6 can't remember the exact amount. I tried to argue this and say that I had the same thing previously but the Manager would have none of it. He was incredibly patronising and rude, saying that I was charged the take out price rather than the eat in price. I had £3.50 on me, so rather than just say it was a simple mistake, I had to pay on my card and be charged a minimum transaction fee, which I didn't think was very understanding. I decided to give them another go the following day when I went in for lunch. I ordered the same item to take away, so it should have been £3.50. The same Manager then said that it was £4.65 to take away... I told him what had happened previously, and he simply denied that it was him who I spoke to, saying that it must have been someone else, despite the fact that it was less than 24 hours ago. His reason for the price was that it had a bit of rocket in it... If you want to start charging over £1 for a couple of pieces of rocket lettuce, put it on the boards. All in all, it's a nice place that is run by a very greedy, rude, patronising manager who does not care about his customers, only their wallets. Feel free to go there, but be ready to be taken for a fool.
Had been wandering around the town and so needed to eat late in the afternoon. Coming across J. K.Palmers found it to be friendly, clean and has great little "special" menu. Really good. I would recommend it.
AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY. Popped in for a quick lunch and my companion specified that he couldn't have tomatoes - he double checked that there would be no tomatoes in his sandwich that he had an allergy - unfortunately there were tomatoes in the sandwich so he went back in to explain and they said that they would fix it, so off we went again only to discover that they had simply removed the tomatoes from the original sandwich and left seeds and juice behind. For someone with a food allergy this is DANGEROUS and potentially FATAL . Please JK Palmers take this seriously before you are responsible for harm someone. We ended up sharing my sandwich and binning the contaminated one.
Unexpectedly polite and professional staff from a rather cheap-looking interior. I had a great breakfast here - great value for money and big portions of food. Definitely recommend.
Delicious food, reasonably priced and friendly, helpful service, even on a busy Saturday lunchtime. Had the Christmas panini which came with chips and a side salad, freshly prepared. Would definitely go back if I visited St. Albans again.
