Very poorly organized loading. Foot passengers wait for hundreds of motorcycle to load. The boat is very nice and the amenities are outstanding. Crew was friendly and professional.
Badly organised at both ports, ferry left a hour late but arrived in 3hours late after scheduled
Thought I had booked a promotional fare then received an email more than a month later saying I had only paid a deposit and needed to pay the full fare. This was 4 times the cost. You have to phone an 0872 number at premium rate of almost £1 per minute. If you phone the Isle of Man number that incurs an international charge of £2 per minute. Staff refuse to call you back and are unhelpful citing small print. I have never come across the practice of charging for a deposit online before with other ferry operators or airlines. Isle of Man Steam Packet company encourage you to book online for their best fares but then it turns out that the payment you made is only a deposit and a bill for the remainder full fare is in reality still outstanding. I feel deceived and ripped off. This will discourage me from ever using the Isle of Man Steam Packet company again. Very poor customer service. More interested with finding ways to charge you as much as possible than helping the customer. This company have turned what I hoped would be a pleasant relaxing trip into a nightmare experience. They will do nothing to help.
This was my first time taking this ferry and I will never do it again. I boarded as a foot passenger from Isle of Man to Belfast. I understand that the ferry was delay due to poor weather. However, foot passengers were made to wait while all the motorcycle were being loaded. Later on, we found that we didn't even board on the same route yet all of us were made to wait extra time. The ride on the boat was extremely rough where the waves were splashing against the window. It'd be better if they had cancel this trip because many of the people including crew members were throwing up and things were dropping onto the floor and some people were falling. After arrival, we had to wait for more than 30 minutes to retrieve our luggage due to the poorly organized luggage retrieving area. The most ridiculous thing was no taxi was available from the ferry terminal. Taxi will only show up about 30 minutes after you call them. I had been in different ferry multiple times including the one in Indonesia during bad weather. I have never experienced anything this poorly organized.
Service varies depending where you are. Frequent sailings between Douglas and Liverpool or Heysham but seasonal to Belfast and Dublin. I guess the demand is limited. Being a monopoly it's difficult to assess fares but don't think they are over the top if you book in advance and take advantage of their deals.
