This is a lovely museum with a vast array of vehicles. The level of restoration they have achieved on the trolly buses is incredible. It is all run by local volunteers, and if you are lucky take the opportunity to be shown around. Our guide was so passionate and knowledgeable, it really enhanced the visit. The receptionist had actually gone to school on one of the old buses when a child! Parking is on the road next to the museum and there were plenty of spaces when we went. A small tea room is also available for refreshments.
I've visited a few museums recently with my father. I have to say this museum is by far the best we've seen covering transport. The place maybe called 'Ipswich Transport Museum' but it very much tells the story of the history of transport in the UK. We went with the expectation of the museum being fairly small, it isn't. The collection on display is extensive and is lovingly cared for. There is a cafe on site, parking is close by on a public road. The museum charges a standard admission fee for adults of about £7.50. It's well worth the money. Definitely worth visiting, one of the best museums in the region. We really enjoyed the visit.
Had a wonderful time as a family of 3 2 adults & 5yr old Calm atmosphere with helpful staff that are more than happy to help when asked and very knowledgeable regarding all the vehicles of transportation. Very reasonable priced cafe and gift shop. All round a lovely experience. 5 starVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
This is great. A nearly 50 year old dad and a 5 year old son for two hours. You can climb aboard the buses, ring the bell and see so much. Not a large museum but great value. If you do have young children be aware the toys shop is as you walk in so be ready for "I want".
Wet day holiday, or any day bring the family to the transport museum. Lots to see, activities to keep hands busy, explore old buses and fire engines. There is a cafe serving snacks and meals or just that well deserved cuppa.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
We were in Suffolk for a few days- The Ipswich Transport museum was the highlight! Great stewards, decent coffee- but most importantly- really interesting exhibits with good, detailed information. The steward that spoke about the electric tram was particularly good and went out of his way to share his knowledge. Many Thanks for a great visit in this extraordinary time!
I visited here on the 31st October with friends and I was thoroughly impressed with the content inside. Plenty of interesting vehicles on display and it was very informative of local transport history and heritage. The owner of the museum even granted us permission to hop onboard one of the trams that has been fully restored!
This museum is truly Heaven for those interested in machines, especially of an era that produced PROPER cars, vans, lorries, etc. Almost anything with wheels is represented in the Ipswich Transport Museum, from pushbikes & handcarts, through to the heaviest of powered vehicles, including combine harvesters & specialist HGVs. There's 2 categories of exhibits on show; 1 ~ vehicles that served the public, whilst operated by Ipswich Borough Council; including transport & emergency services, 2 ~ vehicles constructed in Ipswich factories, by locally founded companies; Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies; Ransomes & Rapier Cocksedge Crane's Compair Reavell Ipswich being an agricultural town, means that vehicles intended for farm use figure throughout the collection. The quantity of machinery on display is staggering, & even more so to consider that it was all restored by volunteers. Just a shame that the museum closes out of summer season...
A fantastic collection of local transport, excellently restored and well displayed by a dedicated team of knowledgeable volunteers.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A real hidden gem we didn't know existed! Good value ticket prices for whats on offer. So many great local exhibits to see, we were surprised how big and well stocked the whole place was, allow around 90 minutes to see everything. The staff members who are giving their time for free were really friendly and helpful, not overbearing and gave more information or a chance to go inside some locked vehicles if you wanted. Particular shoutout to a gentleman who was the 'duty officer' and had worked at the museum since age 18. Note this is only open on Sundays, some school holidays and some Saturdays for special events, during the week it is used for school trips. You buy tickets at the door, not in advanced.
