"We are an independently funded town museum, home to the curious and the wonderful. Established in 1932, Ilfracombe museum holds collections of natural history, taxidermy, African ethnography, South American and Asian artefacts. We also have objects from closer to home telling of Ilfracombe's distinctive and proud history as a maritime town and a renowned resort. Quite a quaint addition to Ilfracombe, situated behind a nice garden area on the way to the tourist information, this building was once a laundry establishment for one of the big hotels back in the day. Inside the museum is a collection of model ships a ship to shore communication station. A remembrance area with an early wheelchair. Memories of early years associated with Ilfracombe. Another part of the museum there was an old kitchen area and a workshop. There was also a collection of stuffed animals from around the area and abroad.
Wow. Not visited this museum for many, many years. It did not disappoint. Very interesting with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Well worth the money. One of the staff explaining about the pendulum from a clock they have.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Small museum with lots of information! The gentleman at the museum was very helpful giving additional information which really enhanced the experience. There's a great history of the area including slides of when the railway steamed into Ilfracombe. Learn about one of the grandest and largest hotels of its time in the area.
I have visited this wonderful museum whenever I am in the area, it is a highlight of my holiday The absolute star of the whole display, for me is the wedding cake drawer. I have a huge amount of photos of this drawer and it is bizarre to say the least. Always makes me smile. Everyone at the museum is more than helpful, kind and informative. An absolute delight to visit and a must if you visit Ilfracombe. Thank you to all the volunteers for helping me take more photos. Hopefully we will be back next year

Brilliant little museum. Lots of interesting things in such a small space. We got there at 4:30 and they close at 5pm, the staff were ever so obliging by asking for a donation instead of charging us full price. Highly recommend!!! Wish we had more time to explore, until next time.
The museum had a variety of exhibits from the Victorian era right up to this century! Definitely a place to visit.
Good. Not very big, lots of stuffed animals.spend less than an hour here.
Went here on Wednesday 2nd November. Didn't go in the museum, only the shop, or so I thought. I ,as some other reviews have said, crossed the imaginary devide between free entry to shop and the museum. I literally glaced across to the museum side of the shop and was challenged by a very rude lady accusing me of being in the museum and looking at the displays without paying. They really need to put some barrier up to prevent this from happening. Or even easier, get someone who is nicer behind the counter who doesn't feel it's ok to tell you off infront of your whole family. Definitely won't be going back there
