It's a small old type station, not comparable with other great station of London, though this station outlook impress any new tourist on the area, great Asian nighborhood, specially many Pakistani immigrant as well as other lived here. I enjoyed my time here.
I will give 5 star when station got lift , it’s too difficult to get platform if you have prem with you. This problem will solve soon when station renovations completed which most likely to complete by 2022. ILFORD station has TFL line which now running new queen Elizabeth trains which are very comfortable. Outside station you can find many restaurants . Exchange mall is just opposite to it. Station has two entries , front entry is at ILFORD Hill . Everyone is waiting in ILFORD to see new avatar of station with lift
In terms of facilities the station is typical of most on the TFL Rail line, there are ample ticket machines, a ticket office and decent sized oyster barrier. The surrounding area however is rather rough and is essentially the most 'East London' area in East London. There is a high number of immigrants, especially of the Asian variety similar to places like Southall. A high crime rate also means you should best avoid the area if you are not local; there is not much to do as the local shopping centre is much poorer than even the ones located in Romford and surrounding shops are typically budget shops like poundland and fried chicken shops.
Ilford Station. Did not recognise it, followed Way Out signs which took me round in circles, very confusing, and main entrance not there any more. Came out not on High Rd, but round the corner. There was no access to the side of the street I wanted to be on. Won't be using that station again and used the bus to get home!
