I rented a van to collect furniture and take it from Sussex to Lancashire. When I arrived at the pickup point I was disappointed at the age and battered condition of the van. Still, it was cheap and Icanhire were the only people to have a van available at such short notice. The van would not unlock, even after I phoned and they tried remotely. Luckily there was a second van nearby which unlocked okay after I phoned customer services. If that van hadn't also been there, we'd have been Donald Ducked. The van was old, battered and dirty, and the sheet to note any damage was missing so I had to take some photos. I did about 700 miles in the van and it ran fine though the morning after we picked it up, it had to be cranked for a long time before all the cylinders fired and it spluttered smokily into life. I had to speak to them on the phone a few times when picking up the van and the guy on the other end, Miguel, was very helpful. The idea is great but I'm not sure I really trust the technology at this stage. The condition of the van and difficultly accessing it means they only get three stars from me, although the experience was positive on balance and we got the job done.
Can in terrible condition, inside straw all over the floor! and out. I had used these vans before a few years ago and been pleased but will not use again. Cost me more than original time partly due to wasting it phoning to unlock as wrong number in email, similar issue at the end and taking photos to email as evidence of state of van so wasn't liable for considerable existing damage. The woman I spoke to on phone was very polite and constructive. But overall, very poor service.
There are a lot of bad reviews but I have used icanhire 10+ times and whilst the vans are a bit tired, the price is good and I can return the van anytime easily without having the restriction of opening hours. I have never used any other van hire company and do not see the need to. I have never had problems with the automated locking system. Yes you get a 3-4 SMS but so what??? I highly recommend.
The van I hired should be scrapped, it had done 240,000 miles, the rear door did not shut properly. The side door would not open at all, we were told this after we had hired and paid for the van, which was then to late to change. The van leaks from holes in the roof and rust holes around the wheel arches. The cigarette lighter does not work, so could not use my sat nav, headlight not working, van was filthy etc, etc.....BASICALY NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!!! Therefore find a different company to hire from!
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. I have never written a review before but felt the need to do so this time. I "attempted" to rent a van from this company last week and after a long process of gaining confirmation, and spammed with SMS messages, the only van was a £20 taxi ride away in the early hours. Once at the van, I was unable to gain entry and had to use the automated voice system TWICE to try before googling a number to call. The guy who answered was unapologetic and showed no sympathy other than "our systems are down and no one can get in". I then had to get ANOTHER taxi back after being told they could cover the expense. They then tried to charge me a late return fee even though I never rented the van in the first place and took 4 days to return my original payment. They have refused to reimburse for the taxi rides and the absolute waste of my time. I will not be using this company again and STRONGLY advise anyone else in the same position to avoid doing the same. Enterprise Car Club turned out to be much simpler, cheaper and efficient.
Just picked up a van, it's in horrible condition. Brake lights arE on, ABS lights are on, no diesel at all to even drive to a petrol station. RUBBISH and DIRTY TISSUES left in the back of the van. I was stuck because I had to to take the van as I had no option due to work times. Never again will I rent from here. Customer service was great but there was nothing they could do . I will never rent a van from there again. Van was left on a very sharp bend on incoming traffic, wasn't a very smart move .
The Van had one working Brake light On the day we needed the Van it wouldn't start because there automated system had failed, so we were late On the way back to drop the van off we were pulled over and harassed by the police for the brake light After the van was returned they took another £14 from my account without permission. There customer support doesn't care or want to know. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
Terrible company and service! Woke up at 5.30am to use a van I’d hired to move House early in the morning. When I arrived the van wouldn’t unlock. Also it had a missing left wing mirror so totally illegal to drive anyway! That was Saturday morning and by today Thursday they still won’t reply to my complaints. Had to use Addison Lee which cost the same price and was excellent service! AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! 0 stars is the best they should hope for.
The concept is great but if there is a problem, the system really fails miserably. The support line was appalling. I spent more than 15 mins in total trying to get a response and received no answer to emails. There was no damage log and the van had significant body damage. The radio was locked, the power socket didn't work, the seats were dirty and smelled of oil and one tyre verged on illegal. Judging from other reviews this is not a unique experience and next time I will look elsewhere.
On several occasions there vans were filthy and badly damaged. Last van stunk and had the engine light on. Didn't drive properly, the back doors would not open and engine made a lot of noise. Avoid these cowboys.
