What a gem! We LOVED this castle. Unfortunately, because tour buses can not park here, it seems to miss the tourist route, but locals and tourists alike should not miss out. It has intriguing history, an excellent opportunity to climb the spiral staircases up to the very top of the roof allowing for a closer inspection of the drainage up there, which is fascinating in its own right, it has original painted scenes on some walls, beautifully preserved stonework and a lovely greenspace that we shall be back to enjoy in summer. I'd encourage everyone to purchase an Historic Scotland membership and get free entry to lots of venues for free! That includes Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Castle, Huntingtower, St. Andrews Castle and St. Andrews Cathedral and MUCH more.
Well worth a visit. Managed by Historic Scotland and free to English Heritage members. Includes spiral staircases, painted decorations on some ceilings as well as wall murals. Able to climb to top of tower roof. Visited by Mary Queen of Scots whilst she was married to Darnley. No furniture. Has several small rooms on each floor housing a medieval toilet. Only a small area to park, but when we visited in September the castle was virtually empty. Toilets and small gift shop.
Took a wee trip to Perth to visit the castle with my Grandson. We travelled from Glasgow to Perth on the bus then a bus from Perth centre to the castle. I bought a guidebook otherwise we wouldn’t know much about Huntingtower. Didn’t spend more than an hour as it is pretty small but we enjoyed exploring the nooks & crannies inside. The bats must’ve been asleep when we visited!
We booked in advance and had the place to ourselves taking the last slot of the day. A few parking spaces available. Toilets on site. We took about 1/2 hour to explore the interior and took lots of photos. Would definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area.
Nice little spot for a couple of hours max unless weather is good and you make use of garden space for Picnicking. Well preserved castle for its age go so the painting before the woodworm eats it all
Small but impressive castle on the outskirts of Perth. Its a much smaller property than most on the list but you can access all parts including some incredible views on the tower roof. This is definitely worth a visit.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Well we stop for restroom and was told we can't just use the restroom without visiting the castle plus entrance fee - luckily, the castle is quite charming.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Fabulous and authentic old building! It really has a historical wow factor. Get in there and have a look!
Lovely helpful lady in the shop. Good clean toilet available too. But the castle and grounds are small so didn't take long to do. Nice stop though if you want a break as there were picnic benches available too.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Well-presented in good condition, with some interesting history. Worth a visit if you are near. We stopped in on the way south past Perth. The castle itself dates from around 1500, and remaining structures are well intact, with traditional roofs, and with some floors in place. There are fragments of decoration, particularly nice to see painted decoration on ceiling boards and joists in the 1st floor hall 1540. There are a few good information boards around to give more context on your visit, and learn some of the interesting history of the castle. Managed by Historic Scotland. Parking is tight. Small shop in the attended both, but no cafe or other facilities. There is ample green space with picnic benches in the grounds if you have brought some lunch.
