Hugh's Champagne Bar
"Pull up a seat and step back in time. Our Champagne bar overlooks Central Station and evokes the golden age of travel, with a sash of style and lashings of charm. For those feeling peckish, food is bold, flavoursome, and focuses on small plates and sharing boards. Afternoon tea has a special place on the menu and is – of course – best taken with a glass of Champagne. Please, note that we're open from 10am for tea, coffee and soft drinks. Alcohol is served from 11am till late."

Had the pleasure of enjoying a few nightcaps here while staying at the Voco Grand Central. Champagne Central is an elegant bar, built in the historic addition to the Grand Central hotel in the early 1900’s. Adorned with some beautiful decor from a stunning crystal chandelier, to the original marble floor that was once covered by a carpet to a series of windows that overlook the main train terminal. Great place to come to start the night with some bubbly, or to end it with some truly excellent drinks. Our host was Moriarty, bartender extraordinaire who makes one of the best Whiskey Sours I’ve ever had. The vibe is lively, but not overly energetic. There is a cute side room for more intimate gatherings as well. In a city full of bar options, this is one to put on your list to see.
Champagne Central has a great reputation for their drinks menu and afternoon tea, so we were excited to go. Overall it was good. The drinks were good, but the only small setback was slower than normal service. We had to catch the servers’ eyes every time and at no point did anyone come to check in if we were ok or if we needed anything. I prefer attentive service, but if you’re more relaxed about it then it’s not a problem. The champagne, cocktails and gin were all very good.
Decadence, great good, lovely staff and exclusive expensive cocktails! Visited for prosecco afternoon tea and was very impressed. Lovely decor!
A very nice stop for a coffee, really friendly and attentive staff looked after us well.
Great place to celebrate and we did. Service good and champagne did help.....
We only popped in for a drink on the way home. I was worried we might be a bit underdressed when we came through the door as it looked very posh. Must say I was a bit disappointed as when we got to the bar it was all very high stools, which isn't greater if you're only 5 feet. We had to move from the ones looking down into the station as we were sliding off. Drinks were a bit pricey too.
Came with my Mum, sister and 18m old toddler for afternoon tea. Had a voucher gifted from Christmas to use. It was a voucher for 3 so I asked if I could pay to have a few extra sandwich fingers added for the baby. The waiter offered us the bar menu consisting of fries, nuts etc. none of which she would eat. So I asked another staff member if I could just add on an extra few egg mayo sandwich fingers to our afternoon tea. I also ordered an apple juice for the baby. She returned with our platter plus a plate of 6 sandwich fingers for the baby which I was charged £11 for including the small cup of apple juice. I didn’t want a loaf of bread I just wanted an extra couple of fingers. So wasn’t expecting such a high charge the Sandwiches were stale. The fillings were basic egg mayo, cucumber, ham and coronation chicken and it was just basic sandwich fingers. Anywhere else you usually get a selection of rolls/wraps/sandwiches. The scones were dry. The cakes were ok but very heavy. The tea was cold. Honestly such a disappointment for such a lovely venue. Was expecting something far more luxurious! I’ve given an extra star just because the staff members themselves were beyond lovely. They were attentive and friendly. Great customer service. But the menu really needs to be reconsidered!!
- nowhere better at Central Station - so much more pleasant than anything on the concourse
Was a bit disappointed with our afternoon tea. I'd been before and enjoyed it. However today was unfortunate. The sandwiches were nice enough... bit skimpy on the fillings though. The scones...I think were shop bought and not homemade. They gave us a tiny portion of cream which looked like it was out a spray can....I asked for a bit more and was told at 1.45pm that they'd 'ran out' so there was no more cream apparently in both kitchens. They didn't give us butter which I asked for and they returned with Flora Margarine...couldn't believe it. The nicest thing was the walnut and ginger cake. We weren't asked if we wanted any more drinks either... just felt kinda disappointed with today's visit. I wouldnt have been happy if we'd have paid full price and not used a wowcher.
Booked for a 30th Birthday treat and it was a fantastic place with great atmosphere and helpful staff. Even brought out a plate with some mini desserts which was an added touch. Go for it if your celebrating!
