Oh it’s bleak. Featureless building that the soviets would proud of. Miss the ducks that were moved on from the duck pond? You get to drive 10 miles + to the nearest medical and dental centre. Well until they close you do. It has a Macdonalds nearby! Which is handy as the place is a ghost town after 1730 hrs. Unless you’re a laser focused career staff officer, then work all day and night on the never ending emails, instead of spending time with your friends and family.n. The use of baffling nonsensical English is at a maximum in this location and it has a cafe that closes around 1430 ish! It’s all solider first round here! In summer the glass ceiling acts as a green house and reminds us of all the excellent times in hotter climes. Especially when the windows are locked shut stops all thoughts of freedom. Even the senior officers live in bignglass boxes! Possibly bigger than the future Officers family accommodation. Don’t get the glass thing! Perhaps it’s so we can watch them, watching us! Perhaps it’s all one big social experiment. As a building the HQ already looks knackered and it’s only about 15 years old. Damp in the stair wells and a triffid garden in the centre that was supposed to pass as a garden of relaxation…..watched the contractors decimate it one summer without a care for plant nor weed! The place is just soulless and often reminded me of a call centre, especially with the utilitarian use of socialist desk share and the final removal of a comfortable workplace. Miss the people but not the place! Mind you it will never be as bad as the Gateway house @ RAF Brize Norton, now that is a crime against humanity.
