My mother recently brought in my linen wedding dress to be dry cleaned as it had been muddied from wearing it on the big day. The dress was a very simple fabric with limited staining, only from the dancefloor/outside on the hem. Whilst the team was helpful, we were quite disappointed with the end service, as the dress remained filthy and stained . My mother was told she would still have to pay the full amount as the dress had been through all the processes - which was a shocking £297. Upon further inspection on the website, we were shocked to discover that we had not been offered the promised service as per the bridal package. We were not provided with images for before and after, a wedding dress sleeve/box and we did not get to speak to an alternate member of the team. The team did offer to wash the dress but we felt we could of done this at home, whilst a risk this was the reason we had taken it to Howard and Howard’s in the first place . It would of been good to understand cost breakdown of “the processes” and what goes into the cleaning to make it such a costly amount.
DO NOT USE!!!!!!!!!! Without going into war and peace, I took my wedding dress to be cleaned on 3/11/22, I collected it on Monday 14/11/22 And to say I’m disappointed is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!!! The hook and eye has been bent out of all proportion, more than 5 embroidered flowers have been ripped off and to cap it all it’s not even clean!!!!!! I called and spoke with Chris who was apologetic and advised me not to worry they’d fix it… Took it back on Tuesday 15/11/22 and that’s where it went downhill rapidly.. I was laughed at repeatedly, told it’s on receipt we don’t take responsibility for zips, we just work here not up to us, yeah I cleaned it but I didn’t check it as it’s not my job, you’ll have to wait to speak to a manager, dunno why Chris told you we’d fix it, we don’t do that ever, not my job to sort this as don’t have authority… Then the “manager” came back, not sure which school of thought of customer service she subscribed to, but it’s certainly not the one most decent folks do! She kindly TOLD me “it’s not a wedding dress, you haven’t paid for a wedding dress, all the embroidery is falling off - you can see that, you brought it in like this, if you didn’t get it checked it’s your fault, we don’t cover ANY embellishments as they’re added after the manufacturing process, it’s not a wedding dress” When I quoted the law at this “manager”she then freaked out saying she didn’t want to talk to me as she’d NEVER been spoken to so badly in her life! I wasn’t aware quoting facts was such a tremendous slur and could cause such a reaction… she then TOLD me I had to wait for 30 minutes to speak to another manager as she didn’t want to deal with me anymore! I repeatedly told this “manager” I simply hadn’t got time to continue arguing which she found very amusing and told me “well if this IS your wedding dress it can’t be THAT important of you have to be somewhere else!” I was in the shop over 25 minutes simply arguing with unpleasant staff who were very amused, indignant and oddly ill informed of dry cleaners responsibilities as set out in the Consumer Goods Act 2015. I have since emailed via the website and the reply received was “I will have to check CCTV” I will be contacting the council and trading standards, as judging by all of the reviews on here the “ladies” in this shop seem to enjoy damaging clothes for devilment and then really enjoy a good argument too as if they’re are down some dodgy pub!! After a wedding dress crease disaster and less than 48 hours until the wedding, the staff at Howard's agreed to steam the dress for us ready for the next day. Absolutely amazing service and we are so grateful for them for taking the stress away, we dropped it off at 4.30pm and it was ready by 2pm the next day. Fantastic
Edit in response: Complete untruth,. I called the store myself to advise the fabric was Cashmere and silk and all previous care provided. The item has NEVER been in storage due to it's importance. I am astonished you have responsed in such an aggressive manner for your erors. Original review: Please don't use this cleaners for anything irreplaceable. They dry cleaned a bespoke long jacket 10 yrs old, multiple dry cleans successfully. I was visiting my mother locally and they destroyed a cashmere silk jacket that is irreplaceable. It had *clearly* been hot washed, not done with the appropriate care - it shrunk enough to be tight on my mother who is 6 inches and 4 dress sizes smaller than me. You couldn't deny it since the lining did not shrink. Astonishingly, they still thought it was good business to charge for the other handful of items we had cleaned, despite offering no compensation for an item that cost in excess of $1000 TEN years ago. I had to write a review as I am so impressed with this company’s bridal cleaning service. Picked up my dress today and I could hardly even notice any stains. This dress hasn’t been touched for 4 years and was badly stained and was told the stubborn ones may not come out. Howard’s managed to make my dress look almost new again. Not only this after they showed me the dress they took it to be packaged it in a box and I didn’t open it till I got home. I cried when I opened the box as it so beautifully presented. I have already recommended Howard’s to a friend. Thank you again!
TLDR; Exceptional service, kindly staff, and a welcoming and thoughtful vibe. Washed bags of my clothing with incredibly fast recovery time with no shrinkage or colour loss. Context: I have just moved in a few doors down and found that the place had fleas from its previous owners and was having the house pest controlled so ALL my soft furnishings needed to be purged – Obviously the washing machine wasn’t playing along either. I shamefully walked into the store and explained the frankly embarrassing situation but was greeted with nothing but compassion and care. The team made me feel welcomed and took in about 8 bags of clothes and cushion covers on the first load of washes alone – the turnaround was a matter of days with no shrinkage or colour loss on any of my items or my partners delicate items. They were all randomly shoved into bags on my end due to the move and the walk over from the house 10/10 would come here again, genuinely fantastic service and lovely staff.Service: Couches/sofas
Excellent service and a very quick turn around for a military dress uniform and dinner jacket/black tie. They do express service and had the kit back to me within 4 hours. Couldn’t ask for more!
Jennifer at the Monkmoor road site could not have been more helpful in getting my wife's wedding dress cleaned. The team there spent a few weeks on getting it up to a fantastic presentation. Thank you once again
