Had dinner for 2 and the food was excellent. 2 courses and 2 drinks for 2 people cost £45. Excellent value. Steak and ale pie was real quality with the beef being melt in the mouth. The fish and chips was superb and was a big portion. The churros were fresh and filled with caramel sauce and the chocolate cake was incredibly light. Will be back.
Only very basic lunch menu available at 1430 yesterday. Very minute scampi mostly breadcrumbs chips greasy you could smell the fat off them .. young female waitress very dour .. no one came round to offer sweets or tea/ coffee had to go looking for a member of staff to get the bill . Place was very cold had to eat with our coats on .. hundreds of logs but no fire !!!
Went for a mid week family dinner, which is a rare treat these days. Unfortunately, while the service was good, the food was pretty grim; frozen pizzas with some extra toppings and cheap burgers. Really disappointing compared to previous menus. I would suggest you try Fox & Hounds across the road.Service: 4/5
Went for Christmas dinner; terrible experience. Vegetarian option was not worth the money paid. Said it was come with a marmalade but when asked I was told it was inside the wellington and it had clearly evaporated the whole thing was bland and very dry. Staff were not not interested in making sure you were ok, no one asked if we wanted drinks, we had to stop waiting staff and ask; they didn't even bother to make up a drinks list some story involving printers - I'm sure they could have knocked a couple up on the home printer. Quite happy to take your 70 p/head a month in advance. I thought it was short staffed but when I looked to the bar area I saw that they were just hanging out. It was an hour between courses. The ladies toilets were a joke they couldn't even be bothered putting toilet roll in a holder so they were all wet from falling on the floor . One toilet was useable the rest were disgusting. You should hang your head.
Menu is slimmed down from last time. Only 2 main courses and 2 types of pizza. Lots of loaded fries options, which I would recommend. New booths in the bar area and tables making a fresh change from the old furniture that was there before. Kitchen closes at 1930 which I wasn't advised of when booking a table for 1930..not ideal. Felt rushed over the limited menu choices. Food was excellent, appreciate time of year has maybe reduced the menu down. Hopefully it will return to normal in 2023.
Great service and excellent food at a very reasonable price. Good live music at weekends too.Rooms: 4/5
Went to Houston Inn for dinner last night 3/12. Very disappointed with food and service. Seems like it was thrown together prawn and chorizo was literally in boiled water and not a tomato sauce. Brushetta was on soft bread. Waitresses hadnt a clue what they were doing.Wouldn't go back.
Very good food and the staff were very pleasant .
Lovely old pub and much bigger than it first seems. A blazing fire and great staff too!
Nice pub inside with friendly staff. Food is decent quality pub grub with quite an extensive menu offering a variety of cuisines. The prices are akin to a restaurant however and I didn't feel the quality of the food matches the prices they were charging. Dog and child friendly with clean toilets and good access throughout.
