Story

House of Marbles is a splendid place to visit in Bovey Tracey, just off the A38 on the outskirts of Dartmoor. With no charge for admission and free parking, hours can be spent watching the many fantastical marble runs in action. Seek out new and exciting treats in the gift, game and homeware shop.

It is a unique site with plenty for all ages and the whole family to see. Explore the museums, learn about the history of pottery and view the bottle kilns that are still standing today. Be amused by the spiffing games of old, ponder the many generations who’ve played with the antique marbles on display and catch a glimpse of the history of glass before watching it being crafted in the onsite working glassworks.
Stay for a bite to eat in the licensed Old Pottery Restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch with choices from the Chef’s specials board, or afternoon tea. There’s outdoor seating for warmer months and a secluded children’s play frame, and this is also where you’ll hunt down the huge floating marble in the games garden.

Don’t miss a visit to this treasure on the edge moors.

Something for everyone here. Intriguing marble runs from small to a huge one with billiard balls. Keeps adults and children enthralled! You can watch glass being blown here which I absolutely love and could watch for hours. Couple of museum type rooms with historical artifacts including glass items, pottery and games. Pleasant cafe and a variety of quality items in the extensive shop. Shop is pricey as you would expect but plenty for kids to spend a little pocket money on and something interesting for most budgets. Seeing you don't have to pay to go in don't mind spending on a little treat! Could easily take a good afternoon (3 hrs or so) to make the most of what's here. Just as a side point.... it's nice to go somewhere where they pay as much attention to the toilets as the rest of the attraction! They are roomy and spotless!!

Not far from A38. Good fun and very interesting for young and old alike, but especially good for entertaining the kids, with bonus of good outdoor area for younger children. A lot of shop area but selling good fun & quality items, including lovely craft goods. Not necessarily cheap but very nice! Cafe on site has reasonable menu but we found it very expensive.

We love it here if I could give it 6 stars I would. Have been many times with our grandson and visitors. Its free to get in and it's a place you can spend as much or as little money as you like. So much to offer the visitor whatever the weather. A lovely cafe/restaurant with excellent staff and service with a smile. The glassworks is brilliant. It is fantastic to watch the skilled glassblowers making all sorts of delightful things. Hand blown glass gifts made on site which you can buy. There is a small museum with original marble runs with buttons to press. Then there is the main shop. What impressed me the most is that in the children's part they are welcome to touch everything. Nobody tells them off. Such fun and relaxing for them. It sells a massive selection of marbles - naturally, and lots of yesteryear games and toys for all ages. The shop also sells a massive variety of gifts. There is an upstairs that sells adult clothes, some furniture and gifts. Look for the snoring bear. He moves around the shop during the night and every time we've visited he's in a different place!! There is a huge original marble run on the wall that is fascinating. Last but not least there is a great outside area for children with a large climbing frame, giant chess game, marble runs etc. Tables and chairs are provided for visitors. To top it up parking is free and there is an overspill car park as well. Altogether a visit is not to be missed. For all ages.

Great indoor experience. The house of marbles has a large shop full of glassware that is handmade and a cafe that sells very nice food and with a nice service. There are several large marble runs, that are great to stop and watch for five minutes. There is also live glassblowing going on, you can watch the glassblowers make vases, marbles and, all sorts of other things. You can ask them questions and take photographs and watch them bend glass like it was honey. Fantastic day out. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

We are local to this business and find it a useful way to amuse the children for an hour. There are lots of displays to look at and an outdoor play area. The cafe serves good food and the shop is well stocked with unusual gifts.
