I was a parent of a student at the school until this year. Although a lot of the teachers throughout her time there seemed very caring and hard-working I was very disappointed with many aspects of the school. The headteacher seems very standoffish to students and is barely visible. My daughter decided to be stay in the sixth form only to learn that the school was planning to close down its sixth form provision when she arrived in September. It appears that a lot of teachers and staff were pressured into leaving under the tenure of the current head teacher. Students seem to have a different supply teacher for every lesson and have no sense of direction. Discipline in the school is also very poor and a lot of bullying takes place in all year groups. I dont think the results are any where near as good as the school makes out which is why local girls want to go to Highgate Wood and Alexander Palace.
I went to this school between 2002-2007 when we were transitioning headteachers Jean Leberet to Andy Yarrow. I had an amazing time there, the teachers were sincere, helpful, and human. They really tried to connect with each girl that went there. There was never a dull day- between the girls or the teachers.nnMulticulturalism was highly respected during my time there and we all got on. I have many fond memories there and did averagely well I think. I went on to graduate at the London School of Economics in 2012.nnI would not be the lady that I am today if it wasn't for the foundation I received at Hornsey. The teachers who were employed then really, genuinely cared and they weren't afraid to show us their insecurities or teach us things they went through when they were our age. The teachers would sometimes sit with us in the dining hall and ask us our opinion about things regarding the school etc.. Our opinion mattered.nnI wonder what happened to this school? It's sad for me to read these negative reviews. I wonder who on earth is there teaching?
My daughter has been at this school less then a year. She was recently excluded because the teacher saw her phone which was switched off she took it out of her bag by mistake. Apparently school policy is girls have to hand it in for 24 hours and a adult collect it from the school. Me and my daughter explained that this wasn't possible as I was out the country. I asked for the exclusion to be delayed until after half term which they refused!! I went to the school today for so called integration meeting. After I challenged the school policy and the unnecessary exclusion the teacher ened the meeting and walked out. Anthoer teacher came in reception and said my daughter was not allowed to stay at school because the meeting was dismissed. I explained it wasn't me who eened it the teacher walked why should my daughter miss her education because the school expect parents and pupils to just accept there ridiculous policy. After waiting 20 mins for the teacher to get the head teacher who I damanded a meeting with. She emails reception staff to say no one is available to see us and sends my daughter home. At 4pm they get a male teacher to call to rearrange the meeting as a intemtedtion tack tick. This school is so unprofessional and don't consider the students best interests. My daughter is currently doing Gcse and has now had 5 days if school this is how much they think of their pupild
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE I WARN YOU!nmy experience here was one of the worst experiences of my life the children are so rude as well as some of the teachers. teachers also have favourites and it is so obvious and i do not think is right as the teachers should like every kid equally i was also bullied until this day on and i left almost a year ago and we used to constantly contact the teachers about it and they hardly did anything and education wise i did not learn anything as all the children are so distracting
I attend this school and I give this school three starts because THIS SCHOOL NEVER CLOSES. If there was a snow blizzard it would probably be open. Sometimes I feel sick so I go to the medical room but max minutes is TWENTY MINUTES. A lot of the teachers are rude especially this teacher called ms benga or something, she was screaming at a girl because her popcorn fell out of her bag when she wasn’t even eating. The older year groups are really mean especially when everyone is walking down the stairs and they tell you to hurry up. It is so cold in classes and they say you have to take your blazers and coats off. The lessons are really boring and we learn the same thing over and over again. You need a note for little things for example going to the toilet which really wastes time. We don’t get to use our mobile phones which is a big problem. The food is sort of gross sometimes and I’m not vegetarian but the vegetarian meals NEED to be improved. The school council is no help whatsoever and should be re - elected. We don’t even get to sit where we want for lunch, which isn’t the nice secondary school experience. You are one minute late so you get a forty minute detention that doesn’t start until everybody gets in. All we do is read in tutor time which I really don’t like. We also need parents permission for everything for example they need to sign our planners, make us notes to say we have an injury and can’t do PE. Ms Ongley is really nice and helps us, she is one of the best teachers. I also like miss Garcia and ms Saunders because I have them for some lessons and they are really nice to me. The history lessons are really good and we actually gain knowledge. There are way too many LGBT campaign posters which make me annoyed since we all have our different religions. We should be able to download stuff onto our computers and be able to do what we like at library. Now my biggest problem is the lessons: we have too much science. We learnt the same things for like a month. The year 11’s smoke. We don’t have enough drama. We get threatened. They need to fix those stinky toilets. There also isn’t enough food sometimes because one on a Monday I wanted some mac and cheese but it was finished so I just had a dessert and shared food with my best friend. That all I have to say so I give hornsey 3 stars
