Some say that its because we live in a town where broadband and wireless signals are pretty rubbish so local people have no option but to read the local paper unlike other places where their papers are in decline. I disagree with this premise because there are folk around here who will never pick up a smart phone or decidedly wouldn't send a text to save their lives by choice. They have elected not to be hoodwinked by Mr Gates and the rest of us on that relentless march to modernity which has fuelled this almost totally out of control consumerist society we live in today. Those folk are of a bygone era who prefer to take their time leafing through the pages of their Horncastle News in a manner just so, with a fold in the right place on the right page thus controlling the volume of information one is presented with at any given time. Then when it has been consumed and digested, an opinion is preferred or perhaps just a wry knowing smile. The art of the written word might be forever lost in text speak and selfies flying around our heads in a constant barrage of electronic information overload. To the man on the bus bending his broadsheet on the way to work and folded it just so.. I salute you for the inspiration you gave me as a young boy to take my time to really read the paper..
