The Vinyl and CD section in the Southampton HMV store is great and there is a decent selection of DVD and Blu Ray …However it was disappointing that the 4K Ultra HD section there were no physical releases to view. They have been replaced by boring black cases. I go to the store to view them in person, see the artwork and slip covers to make a decision to buy. I understand this may be due to security risks or even to protect the products for people purchasing but it’s a shame.
What a great first experience back in HMV, physical entertainment is hopefully here to stay this time... more detailed review to follow
I find this store somewhat disappointing as a music fan. The store itself is massive, yet music only takes up about a fifth of the store meaning the selection is far more limited than in the previous HMV store on the high street, meaning I frequently have to shop elsewhere to find what I'm after. The majority of space is taken up with pop culture merchandise. I realise this is the diversification the store has had to under go to stay relevant in the digital age, but.... it's just a shame that a once great music store is now no longer the best place to shop for music.
Big selection of blu rays, dvds, records and merchandise. Always worth popping in to see what they have. Staff are generally friendly and approachable, and will assist to order items that they don't have in stock. There are one or two individuals that could do with some customer service training, and occasionally I've found their knowledge of film to be lacking, but this is all just down to experience and probably comes with time on the job.
It used to be a video and music store but now, barely a quarter of the shop contains cds, records, dvds and blue ray discs. The rest is merchandising. Useful for gifts but not somewhere to look for a film that's not mainstream or shuffle through cds looking for an unusual album.
Absolutely love going into hmv, can find any album you are looking for, and have no trouble ordering online and picking it up from the shop. Nice batch of kpop albums and plush toys too. The anime section is a wonderful and love seeing the foods and drinks from Japan. Usually pop into hmv when I'm in town.
Omg I love this store brings back my childhood every visit
Was a bit of a rocky start due to them being a bit difficult in accepting an exchange approved by their customer services. Despite an email trail, they were very reluctant and made a simple process very stressful. Once it was realised they were in the wrong they were very accommodating and helpful
So very glad we have an HMV store back in Southampton again ! Real physical shopping heaven and unlike some reviewers who moan about stock but should stay online in their virtual world! A different look, like a market but very clever as we all love to hunt for what we want. I could spend all day here, good selection of vinyl, cd's and dvd/blu rays. Great to have you back HMV
