Ordered tarka daal, saag paneer, saffron rice. Goodness so fresh. Fresh ginger, fresh chopped spinach, breads cooked nicely. Piping hot. Best dinner I've had in quite some time. A real gem on our doorstep I'm so glad I've found!
Yesterday 17th June 2022 I ordered from Royal Gurkha tunbridgewells, Kashmiri lamb hot curry this was supposed to be their best and also I ordered Karahi prawns and tandoori nan. However what they supplied wash Daal Gosht Daal Lamb full of sugar and not Kashmiri lamb my original order. The karahi prawn was also full of sugar and tandoori nan was burnt and hard. They must have thought that they were catering for European by adding so much sugar in the curry. I'm diebetic and the food was high risk to my health. I did emailed them but they never responded. They conned me. original
Based on all the 5* reviews our expectations were high indeed. Perhaps we have different star ratings. The 3* we have given is based on good quality and/or flavour, where a 4* for us is very good and a 5* reserved for exceptional/outstanding. The portion sizes were ample and on par though. The dish descriptions however were very good, "...rare nepalese spices specially sourced from nepal", suggesting an explosion of the taste buds! The dishes were fine, but compared, somewhat bland. The 'Sherpa Chilli Chicken' was described as "very hot", but it was mild at best and liking to a tame Chinese 'Szechuan' sweet & sour chicken dish. We did mainly try the 'Gurkha Specialities' with some traditional Indian side dishes, so possibly their Indian mains are more on par with a 4* to 4.5* restaurant in Tunbridge Wells. There was one outstanding item though, and that was the 'chef’s special momo chutney'. On its own it may be subjective, but as it is a complement with the momo, it was very tasty indeed!
Visitor to the town on a personal retreat weekend and ordered a delivery from here, which turned out to be the best Indian/Nepalese food I've had for a long time. Ordered veg curry not too greasy with a generous amount of proper veg - sweetcorn, broccoli, carrots, well flavoured, veg momo very tasty, veg samosa and naan bread. Got 2 X poppadoms as complimentary. All around £16 discounted after a minimum amount purchased which was very good on value. Will definitely order again when I visit next time.
Chicken Jalfrizi was a confused cross between a sweet and sour and the sauce from a tin of baked beans. Saw the reviews any very confused. Nan bread was dry and rock hard. Himalayan chicken was tasteless. Special fried rice, nothing special on my rice, saag well nothing rich as per the description as look like straight out of the frozen bag with few bits of paneer. Very disappointed
We were hoping for a real treat to have a take away Gurkha restaurant local. However!! What a disappointment.. The Gurkha chicken dish was a confused gloop of sweet and sour overly wet sauce. The Kathmandu lamb ‘chefs special sauce’ was a less sweet version of the same insipid runny flavourless sauce above with a few chunks of lamb which to be fair was tender and ok but lost in a sea of courgette. Don’t even get me started on the Dahl I mean soup!.. all in all if you like your food and know a bit about cooking Asian food give this a massive swerve. Very disappointed.
First time we ordered takeaway here and the food tasted really fresh.. We ordered the garlic chicken with naan and rice, it wasn’t greasy or oily at all, the sauce was really good. Would definitely order again
Simply amazing, true test of Indian and Nepalese curries served. Haven't had such curries for ages as these days foods come modified with colours and additives..but this is exception ...will order again. Thank you.
Have ordered from here many times. Always delicious and piping hot and always delivered before the specified time. Fantastic currys. Highly recommend. X
Abysmal. The worst Curry we have ever had. I have had Curries for 22 years and have never tasted anything as bad as this. My kids disliked it, my wife hated it. Every single dish was packed with sugar. It would appear even the Raita tasted sweat. We could not find any fresh herbs, vegetables nor a spice note. Slimy Cream, Sugar and Coconut dominated. Point me to a single Coconut Palmtree growing in Nepal and I will happily say something positive about this experience.
