A cosy, rustic setting in the beautiful Hillsborough. I'd give it 5 stars only my starter which was a ceasar salad, I found a little underwhelming. There was no chicken in it I doubled checked the menu and there isn't any in it and instead there was a lot of red onion which was a bit much. The sirloin steak was delicious, so tender and juicy when cooked medium. Salted caramel brownie for dessert was soft, sweet and just the right amount of saltiness. I would recommend and go back again.
We were in for a meal and a few drinks on Sunday evening. It's so lovely to be able to sit in a pub setting like this and enjoy a fairly quiet evening without blasting music and the hussle and bussle of a mad restaurant. This place is just as nice as other pub restaurants in the area and no more or less expensive. The atmosphere inside is cosy and warm as the outside of the building would suggest it's going to be. The 4 of us had a nice meal and in the most part were waited upon without fuss or hassle. One member of waiting staff was rather blunt and to the point, not so much as to be rude but more like they had just started the job recently. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this occasion as the rest of the experience was grand. The quality of the food seemed to be to a good standard although my risotto was a little hard rather than creamy. Good selection of drinks, again as you would expect. Overall a nice evening out and a much enjoyed experience.
Staff here were lovely. Really friendly and happy at their work. wife had a tasty risotto. Fish part of my fish and chips was great but the chips were hard. Can't understand restaurants serving these massive chips that aren't cooked.
Had a beautiful 10oz rump steak main and Guinness desert. Great 2 course meal and very reasonable price means that we will be back again! Staff very friendly and accommodating!
For a Thursday night sorry to say not a good experience, bar staff were few and in-experienced but they tried their very best. We booked for 1830hrs and shared breads @ 1845hrs and placed mains order at the same time, mains did not arrive until 1935hrs. - the mains were mainly micro- waved , potato mash and chicken burgers, very dry and tasteless. I know that times are difficult but really Hillside really needs to raise it game as people in that location which is fabulous will support if the offering is right !!!! --- please, please sort it out Not a very satisfied customer
We went to the hillside today for Sunday lunch. The bar was lovely and welcoming but the restaurant was cold and quiet. After ordering the staff had to come back 5 minutes later to ask what the order was because the couldn’t remember it. 45 minutes after ordering we had to go and ask where our meal was my 4 year old son had received his meal and finished it but the 4 audits hadn’t received their main meals. The staff came nowhere near us and just stood talking to each other and we had to go to the bar to order more drinks which never arrived until we went 15 minutes later to ask for again. The staff didn’t come to ask if we needed anything or to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. Over 2 hours after we arrived my 4 year old son was so frustrated he got up and went to find staff to order a milkshake and icecream for his desert. 20 minutes after waiting for this the milkshake arrived…. We are home now and still waiting for his icecream that never arrived which the staff the tried to bill us for. We would have all had coffee and deserts if anyone had come near us to ask but left without and over 2 & 1/2 hours after our reservation time. Food was lovely… restaurant staff terrible and the restaurant was very quiet so can’t even say they where busy.
The Sunday roasts here are superb with the roast pork being my favourite. A friendly owner who enjoys his job and has time for every customer, a great selection of beer and whiskey, and either a beer garden for the good days, or a nice cosey fire for the colder ones, a fantastic bar all round.
Lovely meal, excellent food. Ruined by singer and their 91dB volume. We couldn’t have any conversation except shouting across the table. We knew there was music, but they neglected to mention the volume would be prohibitively loud.
Always a bit disappointed when a pie turns up in a small dish especially when it costs £15 odd. Could do with more character beers instead of many variations on fizzy lager. Otherwise, a pub with a great deal more character than most....and thank Santa Claus that they haven't got screens all over the place loudly broadcasting Moldovan football matches etc.
This place came highly recommended,so when we were in Hillsborough we went for lunch. Some people were eating in the bar the restaurant itself was empty. Service and staff very good. The food was underwhelming and did not live up to the high praise.
