Personally, I have had really good experiences in this GP surgery. I am expecting to move soon and I am very sad to have to change GP.nnI find every appointment has been appropriate: it has been managed over the telephone when I didn't need to come in and waste their time or mine, I have sent in photos which they recommended an eye cream and it worked, and they have booked me in face-to-face when it was needed.nnI appreciate that everyone has different experiences, but I have always found staff to be friendly and helpful, I have seen them be respectful and not rush people when they needed to talk about something lengthy, and they have been swift and efficient when they can be.nnPersonally, I think Highcliffe Medical Centre really is the perfect example of a GP surgery run brilliantly.
I think they are very good, especially when I compare with other surgeries. Yes, it takes ages to get an answer to a phone call - but possibly the same at most surgeries. Whenever I have spoken to a receptionist I have later received a phone call from a doctor. Then, if we both think it's necessary, I have been given a face to face appointment. Depending on how urgent my co edition is that appointment has been the same day or 3 weeks later. They have followed up by text asking for updates and if necessary I have been given a further appointment. It's not perfect but I have been happy with the surgery for the last 25 years. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Over the past few years, this once reputable medical centre seems to have lost its way. While the reception staff are generally polite and helpful - especially considering the high demand on the service - accessing proper medical care has become increasingly difficult. Securing an appointment with a doctor is nearly impossible, and on the rare occasion you do, the experience can feel dismissive or patronising. This is not the case for all GPs at the surgery, however this unfortunately has been the case for me more than once.
To get and online consultation, book an appointment etc, you have to use e consult. This has not been available for weeks now. You are not encouraged to get through by phone, so the only way to book an appointment is to visit the surgery. There does not appear to be any point in having an online consultation service if it is not accessible.
Crazy! Just want to update my new mobile number. Should be able to send a simple email or SMS but no! Instead I have to wait forever to speak to a person and take a space in the queue to add to the misery of somebody who might be ill. Absolutely ridiculous. I might try sending a telegram but that might be too modern for the surgery! Steve K.
