Highbury Grove School

Story

Highbury Grove School is a co-educational comprehensive secondary school in the London Borough of Islington. It covers the age range 11 to 18 (as part of ic6 sixth form college which teaches both A-levels and BTEC courses) It is classified as a Community School, specialising in music. The head teacher is Tom Sherrington who took over from previous headteacher Henry Jones. Well over half of the pupils have been assessed with learning difficulties, disabilities, or literacy, dyslexia or language needs as well as there being a school joint to the same building called 'Samuel Rhodes' (a school helping people who have needs and disabilities). In Highbury Grove, a sizeable proportion of pupils have English as second language. Over half the pupils are from Black Caribbean, Black African and Bangladeshi groups and about one third of pupils from Turkish and other minority ethnic groups. In its latest Ofsted report (December 2016) the school was described as "inadequate" other than 16-19 provision, which was assessed as "good". The school moved into a new, modern building on the same site in December 2009.HistoryHighbury Grove School began life as an all-boys comprehensive in 1967. The founding headmaster was Dr Rhodes Boyson. It was created out of three former boys' schools in the area, Highbury Grammar School, Barnsbury Boys' School, and Laycock School, as part of a comprehensivisation scheme by the then Inner London Education Authority. Boyson introduced a regime of strict discipline, including caning for misbehaviour. Excellent academic results were achieved, and the school was soon heavily oversubscribed.Boyson left in 1974 after being elected a Conservative MP; in the 1980s he was to become an education minister under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

As s student in the school its terrible its not a safe environment mental health matters until it infringes on ability to focus they favourtise the students causing the problems and then reporting it differently and only listen to other staff members. The countless amount of times detentions are given for little or no reason is endless. Students are not listened to PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE
I have had boys from this school banging at my door everyday in the past 6 months, very aggressive, you could call it harassement. Doesn’t highlight great values and the school management is not returning my emails and calls and doesn’t seem to care at all. Would definitely avoid at all costs!!!
It looks like a good school and all, but I really don’t see anyone passing their GCSES.... Thats kind of a shame. GCSES are what you’ve been studying for the entire time. Most people like this school because it is new. It is good to give it a try but the old school was really trash. School is strict too.
Students should feel safe instead the school fails to protect children. They do not follow protocols- please don’t send your child here
Not flexible with regards to open mornings. Was an unwelcoming environment. Even my daughter said she didn't like the atmosphere. Personally it wasn't a pleasent experience
Disregard for pupil safety, racial motivated attacks on children from adults and unjust victimisation of guardians
Cyber bullying is taking place in the school. School have full knowledge of the situation but have not taken the necessary measures to deal with it.
Worst school in the uk they don’t follow protocols
Disgusting receptionist, no professionalism at all, terrible customer service and lack of knowledge at reception
