We feel extremely lucky that our little girl attends Heywood Prep nursery and will continue through the Prep school. Within weeks of our daughter joining the nursery our daughter was brought out of her shell, her speech and independence improved no end and she was excited to be going each day. Nursery related melt downs are now limited to when we collect and she doesn't want to go home! The opportunities on offer are vast and the specialist teaching is wonderful. Our little one will be starting her big school adventure this September at Heywood and we look forward to watching her flourish in Heywood's capable hands. Would wholeheartedly recommend.
Our boys moved to Heywood when they were in year 1 and year 4, and we've never looked back. It was a tough decision getting to the point where we decided to move them from a school where they were happy, but yet where we as their parents didn't feel they were getting a high quality education from passionate and caring teachers. They were both in what we called 'the forgotten middle' where they weren't in need of additional support and nor were they considered talented and gifted, and so they drifted through their school days in large classes, ticking the boxes when it came to the expected progression of their learning. In making the decision, we did a lot of soul searching on our part, a lot of wondering if they'd be ok, we chatted with existing parents, and had lots of chats with Mrs Mitchell about the individual young people they were. And then came the huge leap of faith! Within weeks we were saying "if only we'd done it sooner!" Our eldest is now in year 7 at secondary school - a school we truly don't believe he would have gone to if it weren't for the Heywood teaching and preparation. Our youngest is in year 4, still at Heywood and is so very happy. There is a Prep school at our eldest's secondary school, and although logistically it would be much easier to have them both in the same place, we've seen and experienced the Heywood magic and it's important to us that he gets that too through to the end of his primary school years. The teachers are amazing, each of them passionate about their particular subject. They care for the kids as the individual people they are. They encourage each of them, gently, to aim for their best. It couldn't be further from 'the forgotten middle'!
An excellent school! My son and daughter started attending Heywood Prep in nursery and they are now in Year 3 &5, Heywood have always catered for their individual interests and the teachers are great, they genuinely care about each child, giving them great opportunities! Overall my children come home happy as they love school so that ticks all the boxes for me as a parent! I can’t praise the school enough, they are amazing!
My daughter attended Heywood Prep Nursery between late 2020 to spring 2021 while she was 3 until 4. She absolutely loved her time there and was excited to go right from her first day, she would often talk about her days and the other children once she was home and always wanted to go back again. The teachers, the Headmistress and her PA are fantastic and all very welcoming, incredibly helpful and friendly people who I enjoyed getting to know. The only reason we had to conclude my daughter's attending there was because of moving out of Corsham for family health reasons. I highly recommend Heywood and imagine the experiences your child will likely have, should they attend, be promising. Wishing everyone there much success.
This is an exceptional school with enthusiastic and devoted teachers. Both of my children have been there from nursery to year 6. During Covid the quality of online teaching has been brilliant and the team have really kept my daughter focused not easy.The sports activities are awesome - Heywood punches well above its weight with pupils given the opportunity to compete at a regional and national level as well as against other schools. The teachers put so much effort into preparation and you can see the fun they have when you watch the end of term videos. I would strongly recommend this school. My children have successfully got into their 1st choices secondary school and are well set for success there too.
Our daughter went to Heywood Prep for seven years, starting in the Nursery through to Year 6. From day one we were welcomed into the Heywood family where our daughter settled immediately. Without exception, every year she was taught by inspirational teachers who brought out the best in her. She developed many passions over the year through the extra-curricular activities encouraged by the school, from sports to music and drama. But in addition to that it was the way the school was run; the communication between the school and ourselves was always 100% and as parents we were always made to feel welcome and included. Now in Year 7 at another school, the legacy of Heywood continues in our daughter being a happy, well balanced and charismatic individual, all traits encouraged as a Heywood girl.
I have two children in Heywood, both from nursery. They love school, and I think that is the best recommendation there is. The teachers are wonderful and caring, providing time for their students. The club selection after-school is great and wide-ranging and they offer wrap-around care with delicious meals for those working parents. I would hesitate to recommend Heywood for your children.
My child started Heywood in Year 4. He loves the warm and friendly atmosphere of the school and has quickly made friends. I've been enormously impressed by the opportunities that he experiences during his time in school that are additions to the expected lessons, such as learning how to play the violin and Ukelelle in music lessons, exciting STEM learning and maths investigations far beyond the realms of the curriculum. As a working parent the wrap around care and homework clubs have made family and work commitments easier. Finally, but by no means the least the staff are fantastic. There is often some zany fun going on which the children are involved in. The teachers genuinely care about who my child is and what makes him tick. We have been delighted with our decision to join Heywood.
Our children aged 7 & 9 started at Heywood Prep in September 2018 and have settled into the school brilliantly. The teaching staff are completely focused on the children and have created an extremely friendly and welcoming atmosphere in which they are flourishing. In particular, the smaller class sizes of 14 - 15 have really helped our children to develop their confidence, interpersonal skills and academic achievements in an environment that celebrates their strengths and develops those areas in which they are less able. We have also been extremely pleased with the variety of sports that the children now play rugby, football, hockey, fencing etc and the broad range of clubs which they can attend.
Heywood Prep provides a caring and nurturing environment where our 3 children have always been happy and received consistent high quality teaching. Their care has been excellent throughout all stages; nursery, pre-prep and prep. The school works hard to offer the children every opportunity whether that’s across the arts, sports or academically. The teaching staff have been incredible, especially during lockdown, the enthusiasm and energy that has been put into the children’s remote learning has been exceptional. In our experience the team has always been approachable and receptive to any feedback. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Heywood.
