Completed my secondary stage of education in this school. Most teachers are good, but there are many that didn't suit to teach in a "grammar school". From my time there, several teachers have been removed from the school for negative reasons such as poor teaching skills, punctuality and more. The schools biggest letdown are the pupils. Don't get me wrong, there are few intelligent students in every year. However, the majority are very immature, rude and are complete opposites to how "grammar school students" are expected to behave. There's also been cases of bullying, fighting and smoking over my time there (if I sound too harsh, I'm just being honest). Overall, the school is decent. I believe the only thing that's holding the schools "grammar school" name is the amount of money spent on the school. Also, everyone should keep in mind that grammar schools tend to "filter" out the less able students with their 11+ exams. Thus, neglecting the fact that all students have sparks in them at at specific age. Therefore, even if they don't get a place is this school, they have just as much potential, if not more, if they go to other schools, even state schools. It's their independent time and dedication they put in that differentiate them and get them to the top. I learnt this when many of my friends that went to state schools came out with top grades and did better than many of my friends that went to Herschel with me. I've also experienced state schools and surprisingly, students in the state schools were far better behaved and so, created a friendlier atmosphere and working environment than in Herschel. However, students at that young age (i.e when they're at the age of taking their 11+) are innocent, when they grow they change and, unfortunately, in Herschel, most of them have lean towards the negative behaviour and manners as they learn it from the older pupils and so pass the negativity down. It's a shame to see the pupils ruining a school that had potential, but it is what it is...

Absolutely amazing headmistress, Mrs Rockall. Almost all teachers are very passionate and supportive. They helped both of my boys reach their potential, am very pleased.
