Historical railway station about 15 minutes from the city centre. You can catch a bus from outside but I found it just as easy to walk. I visited from Reading on a cold November and appreciated the seating and heating in the ticket office. There are train services from here to London Paddington, Birmingham, Manchester and South Wales.
Friendly staff, very helpful. Sadly not great train service, lots of cancellations, but I guess that's what British rail is these days, not the station staff fault, they are just trying their best.
Absolutely appalling customer service from the railway station staff. Showing constant prejudice towards students. Using foul language to describe children. Using the police community volunteer officer to completely deny the other side of the story because they are authority in a uniform. When my daughter calmly explained to the officer that that the reason she ‘rolled her eyes’ at the ticket officer because the staff member spoke to her in a rude manner. My concern increases as another member of staff had called her a ‘cunt’ a-few weeks prior. She brought this comment up to the officer and she dismissed her experience saying ‘I highly doubt that’ and said she should have reported it at the time. My daughter explained that she told another member of staff who just said, ‘Aw did they’ and did not inform her of the complaint procedure. I’m disgusted at the unprofessional treatment in this establishment and I hope if a situation like this one arises in the future it will be correctly rectified.
Nice little train station. Vending machine is quite expensive but good for snacks after a lovely trip out. Taxi rank outside was busy, so we booked a taxi using an app which was easy to do.
Has a waiting room on each side, toilets cleanliness is hit and miss but generally good and is fairly spacious for a small-medium sized station.
