We booked Henry's on the Prom for a 2 night stay over the weekend based on the previous reviews we saw that claimed how amazing it was. On arrival, we knew we'd made a mistake as soon as we walked through the doors to find an empty hallway with no reception desk and all doors on the ground floor level locked and not in use. We were greeted by a woman in bare feet who then showed us to our room on the second floor. There is no carpet, just bare untreated wood with the carpet grippers painted over on the stairs. The room was not as described. They claimed it was 'modern shabby chic', but it was poorly decorated and just looked plain shabby. Curtains hanging off tracks, dirty window ledges and a broken window with a handwritten sign saying 'DO NOT USE'. We read another review from 2013 which mentioned the broken window, and they claimed they would fix it. Three years on it is still broken and dangerous. We opened the mini fridge to make tea and the milk was sour. Upon calling the owner to ask for fresh milk she made a show of drinking the off milk and claimed there was nothing wrong with it. We could smell sewage but thought it was coming from outside and that it would pass. As the evening went on the smell got worse and by nine PM, the smell was atrocious and that of human faeces. We attempted to call the owner on both the number in the handbook, as well as her personal mobile. After many attempted calls she finally contacted us and came to our room. Upon arriving she was visibly angry at being woken up and made a point of telling us that she had been woken up. We mentioned the smell and thought there must be a problem with the toilets and didn't want to make it worse, so had not been to the toilet since we arrived. she told us that because of the rain, the drains were blocked outside and would speak to us about it in the morning and we would "arrange a refund of sorts". While the refund wasn't the issue, it was her attitude towards the situation. Upon leaving the hotel for some fresh air, we noticed that the smell wasn't in the surrounding area, as the woman had claimed, it was only in the hotel itself. We were only booked in for two nights and on the first night it was completely ruined. The next morning, we went down to breakfast expecting for her to speak to us about the previous night, only to be completely ignored. She sent another woman over to ask us what our order was and then disappeared from the room. Aside from this, she was serving food to other guests in bare feet yet again. Upon arrival the previous day, we had been asked to pay for a parking permit which only lasted 24 hours, and we then had to renew it the next day. My husband tried to find her to renew the permit, we found her off premises talking to what seemed to be a personal friend. At first, she would not acknowledge him at all, so he had to talk over her and interrupt her conversation to get her to answer him, at which she still did not acknowledge him but simply pointed at the hotel. At this point, the other manager came over and assisted him properly. The last day we decided not to go to breakfast as we didn't feel at all welcome and were too stressed and tired from our treatment, the smell and lack of sleep as well as noise from the nightclub opposite the hotel. We simply checked out. Actually, we couldn't even check out properly as there's no front desk, nobody manning the reception, and no visible staff anywhere at any given time. We simply stood there holding out our keys until one of them noticed us. We didn't expect a refund. What we DID expect was some form of reconciliation or a gesture of goodwill. None of which was received. After returning home we tried to contact them via email and have had no A total waste of valuable time and money.
