A really lovely trip. Stunning views and such a beautifully kept place. Every garden and the road sides are all well attended on both estates. The staff were friendly and it is very dog friendly. There is very little to the the Etal side once you've been into the village. It would be nice foe there to be something of interest at the train stop for those that get there 20 mins early. Make sure you check the train times as we got caught out and the last train went at 4, not 3.30 and we got back to the stop thinking we only had 20 mins til it went but of course it was another 30 more.
Visited during the half term. Kids loved the train trip to Etal. Trains were slightly delayed but that did not spoil the day. Train staff polite and friendly. Recommended.
This is such a cosy little train to ride. Me and my partner loved it so much we went twice in one week. I have booked him an experience day for next year so he can drive the trains. You can tell how passionate the staff are about their job and they're incredibly friendly and helpful. The parking is free with a suggested £2 donation towards maintaining the grounds. The train goes to a lovely little place with a cafe, pub, old ruins and a river to explore. Lovely in the sun!
Had a lovely day and everyone was so nice. Definitely go again for the third time
Lovely welcome in the shop/booking office. Was told to wait whilst they cleaned the train due to Covid - but they didn't clean it l at either end of the track. Why bother saying that? Train ride was great value for money with excellent social distancing procedures in place. Staff on board were happy & friendly. What was disappointing was the fact the toilets were closed at the centre after we got off the return train. The visitor centre was still open at that point & lots of people got off the train & went to the toilets but they were shut. It was a long drive home for us so very inconvenient. It should be mentioned on your website that the toilets close before the last train returns. Overall a great day out & well worth the fee.
Highly recommend especially at Christmas. Really good experience
What a lovely little train this is!! Service was friendly and efficient but as a warning, it is a bit of a hill to climb to get anywhere from either station. Not impossible but less able walkers may find it a struggle. Great for kids who thoroughly enjoyed the 'Little Engine That Could' if you know, you know
Cute little railway, me , my wife and dog really enjoyed our little trip on the steam train to Etal, a gorgeous little village with a superb café,the food was perfect, would definitely go again!
The railway is part of the Ford and Etal estates which is a fantastic place to visit. The little steam train takes you from Hetherslaw corn mill still a working mill along the riverside to the ruins of Etal castle. Brilliant journey on a lovely sunny day. Well worth the 5 minute stroll to the picturesque Etal village where both the pub and tearoom are highly recommended. Definitely a great place to spend the day.
Lovely afternoon trip on the railway meandering round the bends in the river between Etal and Heatherslaw
