Beautiful area for walking lots of routes to enjoy. The ravine walk can be quite muddy and there its lots of steps up and down. You can get all the way down to hawthorn hove beach with views of viaduct. Again lots of steps down to beach bit worth it. Very peaceful. Parking on roadside at the start if lucky will spit the alpacas.
Had a lovely walk at Hawthorn Dene Nature Reserve today. It was muddy underfoot as there had been a lot of rain overnight, this made it a bit slippery in places. Took the lower route with plenty of steps to reach the viaduct & beach - well worth it. Walked back at a higher, more even level & not so muddy. Lots of bird song though didn't see much as the trees were so dense. We parked near the Palomino coffee truck where we enjoyed delicious cakes, coffee & tea after our walk & watched the Alpacas munching their lunch.
Lovely walk. Loads of steps up and down
This was well worth the visit. I just parked near the entrance on the road, was loads of space. Beautiful scenery and a lot of history here. You will walk by beautiful fields, the views are incredible, go through trees down these steps into a ravine and under a victorian bridge. Saw some old cave, not sure how old it is. You get down to the beach, only say one other couple down there. There is a ww2 pill box down there, the beach is full of stones not much sand, could have been an area that was mined in the past, I'm not up on the history yet up here as I'm from the South originally. If you love walks, exploring or even somewhere to go for a run this place is well worth it.
Lovely walk through the reserve all the way to the coastal footpath. My only negative remark is there are so many trails but not enough sign posts. So took a wrong turning and ended up walking all around the quarry
