Had 1 night here in campervan with my husband and dog and it was a lovely spot, 2 toilets always stocked with toilet roll and paper towels, shower was clean with warm water. Sink for doing dishes. Drinking water and waste water disposal. Bins for recycling your rubbish. My husband and i felt this place was fair value for the money paid. Would return.
Great little site with basic toilets and showers, EHU, wast disposal and water. Very friendly owners quiet location despite its proximity to the main road which is actually VERY quite at night.. Dark Skies area. No terrestrial TV reception, satellite and streaming work perfectly. Open all year!
Having stayed on this site, we can only state objectively that it was not a fully pleasant experience. The site was chaotic, unkept, more akin to a building site that a campsite. The entrance way is narrow and immediately off a busy road which renders ones access to the site somewhat dangerous. Standing are loose hardcore with unorganised adhoc hook ups. The path way to the shower was very soggy from recent rain and the make shift lattice wood covering was not safe due it being slippery and shoddy. The shower itself was an inconsistent affair in terms of regulated temperature control. It varied from a flow which was tepid to scolding hot. The shower lighting system had clearly not been installed correctly. Toilets were acceptable but far from fully clean and equipped. The loo roll ran out and was not replaced in the morning nor was the toilet cleaned ready for campers to use in the morning. Road noise is very intrusive and not at all conducive to a peaceful stay. The site has a gaggle of geese which wander freely and take an aggressive stance and attack to campers, not to mention goose and chicken droppings being deposited immediately out site of your camping unit. The site could have some potential if it could be brought up to a better standard of safety and comfort for the price of £18pn. It does leave us wondering if this was more of a a wild idea based on monetary gain rather than proving good service. The location is remote so one needs to be stocked with some provisions before you arrive. If you come prepared and like local natural history, then the site could be a bonus. However, it needs a lot of effort and work to make this a better or at least a bearable place to stay.
We stayed here for 4 nights recently and the area is stunning. As for the site it didn't start great as there was alot of confusion just over the booking before we even got there. Then when we got there despite booking a month in advance we ended up having to share a pitch with the people we were travelling with because I think pitches had been overbooked? Don't remember ever getting any kind of apology about the hassle of booking. The facility's could do with some finishing off as shower and toilet block is pretty rank floors aren't even tiled in showers its just concrete floor? Water pressure didn't exist and didn't seem like they were cleaned much either, we used our own shower. I wish I could rate it more highly as the area is stunning and this campsite is located well but not sure if we would book again, the workmen leaving every morning at 5-6 am was a bit annoying too. Hopefully won't pretend we didn't stay here as we stayed here only couple weeks back.
Just spent 6 nights here in our motorhome on a hard standing with hook up. Shower & toilets available along with washing up area & washing machine. Very well priced. Forrest Walks from the site 100m & 270m down the road. We did cycling too on some of the quieter B roads taking in the beautiful scenery. Plenty of wildlife to be spotted red kites, deer, ospreys stoat or weasel we we’re not too sure which & red squirrel are just a few we spotted. Tea rooms in neighbouring villages with great cake. Andrew is very knowledgeable & great for information on the area. I must not forget the eggs free range organic delicious. We will return Thank you Julie & Wayne
Site was far too noisy at night with non stop traffic especially heavy timber lorries. The shower was not very warm and not the cleanest. Very rude awakening in the morning with workers leaving the site at 6am onwards.... I can assure you we did stay there paid for 8 nights but only lasted 5, pulled off site due to the road noise. No TV or radio signal.
Lovely friendly quiet site with nice clean amenities, toilet/shower block clean and well stocked, highly recommended for that quiet get away.
Not the Ritz but a fab rustic site just off the A713 Road but oh so quiet. Besides walking in the area, I spent ages just watching the birdlife in the hedges and a Red Kite circling not far away. The site owners Andrew and Jane Metcalf are a lovely friendly couple. What more do you need for £17, great value for money too? I will be back, sometime soon. Galloway is beautiful for walking and exploring and this campsite was in the right place.
Lovely spot to stay in your caravan. Water, electric and waste water disposal available for those staying at the site. Friendly and helpful and eat value.
Visited this campsite last weekend. A group of 4 of us spent 3 nights here, Andrew and his wife the hosts of the campsite was very friendly and helpful. Post lock down, nervous about the virus before we arrived, host couldn’t of been anymore accommodating as facility’s were cleaned over regularly. Very peaceful, good location lots of nice walks around. Fresh eggs in morning. Also electric hook up if needed.
