Happy with the service and on-line quote via Go-Compare. However I'm yet again surprised that the renewal quote from Hastings is more than their on-line quote. Third consecutive year this has happened. It means I have to go through the on-line process each time instead of simply accepting the renewal quote. When I've contacted Hastings by phone for an explanation I have been put through the 'let's see if we can get you a better deal' process, lasting up to 30 minutes, only to discover that they can't! But as the on-line quote, when taking into account the excess, was pretty good I can't complain too much.
When I was struggling to find my new car online and called the very helpful representative was so good and he managed to insure my car whilst at a train station en-route to pick up the very car in question. I was thrilled to get sorted it so quickly and before my arranged pick up too. Highly recommend and will no doubt be moving my other cars over too as was an excellent price with lots of add ons.
Took a policy out on 05/01/23 was due to start on 30/01/23. Couple of hours later a policy was available by Hastings which provided me better level of cover and was cheaper. I took the better cover and cheaper policy out. Called in 06/01/23 to cancel the original policy I took out. Every consumer has the right to a 14 day cooling off period. When I tried to cancel my policy I was told I would be charged £20. I put in a complaint but was not told why I was charged £20. My question is my policy hadn’t started with Hastings, they hadn’t added me on the motoring insurance database as I have cover else where yet. So not sure why they have ripped me off by £20. Don’t use this company……… was told I would get a refund within 3-5 working days for the first policy I put in. 5 days later still awaiting refund. I had to call in and chase where my refund was. Was told I need to check with my bank, turns out the refund hadn’t been processed properly, and people out there pay extra for call centre support. Absolute shambles. Cos Tassou Let me know when your going to be refunding me £20 and an explanation on why your charging me £20 for a policy which hasn’t started yet!
Be Aware! Tried to cancel my renewal today. Had trouble logging in to my account so decided to cancel by phone to avoid automatic renewal. Took ages to track down the customer services number. When I eventually got through I got the usual sales patter and a refusal to accept cancellation. The agent claimed that it was company policy to provide an updated renewal quote when all I needed was confirmation of cancellation. Took a 15 minute phone call for a simple request due to their pushy sales tactics. Would not touch this company again irrespective of their price. Thanks for the response. Maybe if you just provided the best price at renewal quote you wouldn’t need to waste time looking at ‘finding a better price’ when we call you? We aren’t stupid.
I got a quote and as I hadn’t brought the car yet, I entered “within a month” when I was asked when I would like the policy to start. It gave me a quote of £770 for the year I decided to go ahead with the purchase and agreed to collect the car the following Saturday. I went back to the quote and put in the new confirmed start date and the quote changed from £770 to £1800 Assuming this was an attempt to exact money due to urgency of the cover I delayed the cover start for another week and it came down to £950 I have taken up the policy but I don’t like their tactics so I will be insuring with someone else once this policy has expired
Whole experience poor. Unwelcoming feel to all of the admin received - main emphasis seems to be on listing and implementing as often as possible, all of the extra charges for making any changes to a policy. Website and App were down for the first 24 hours of our policy, we had no way to view our documents. A complaint sent regarding this, poor advice given, charges made and general customer service went completely ignored and unanswered. So we are nearly £50 pounds down for for cancelling/changing a policy/rejecting poor advice. At no point had anyone in any department shown any interest in finding a way to mitigate/waiver these unfair high charges or investigate why bad advice was given, and why required information was not asked for in the original online application process, but then becomes a 'change' to the policy. No interest in putting things right, which any company that cares about its customers will always do. Also, I fail to see how a charge for cancelling a completely online- no paper work policy within hours, can justify such high charges. I did all of the work! This is the last time I will use a comparison site to choose a 'cheapish' car insurance. We now have cover with a much friendlier company, a better level of cover, far lower charges for any changes made, for just a few pounds more. ADVICE: Check with SEVERAL sites like Defacto, Trustpilot and Which? for reviews for the level of cover AND customer service.
Tried to amend policy to new vehicle. They got the registration wrong and changed the policy with out my knowledge. They charged to change the vehicle that was fair enough. They then charged again the next day to change the registration number to the correct one. The customer service is beyond awful. All good unless you actual need help or need to change a policy. Never had this from other insurance companies.
I took a policy out with Hastings direct and had to cancel the policy because they were demanding NCB proof even before my current policy finished. So I cancelled the policy and the customer service advisor told me I would receive my money back 5 days after my policy was suppose to start to put this in perspective I would have to wait more than 3 weeks for my money to be back. I said this doesn’t make sense and I would like my money back and the advisor suggested she could get the “approval” from her manager and arrange for quicker transfer of money. GUESS WHAT! She lied!! I called back 2 days after and another advisor told me they don’t have such process in place and I would have to wait for my money to be put back!! Absolute liars!!! MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS ASK FOR A WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE ADVISOR WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY! Horrible! :
Always a good experience and over the years I have found the policy’s to be good value. Always worth checking renewal price against their own different offering though. Sometimes very difficult to get to speak to a real person but that seems to be the insurance industry in general.
I'm horrified at the level of customer service this company has provided to my grandad, who is 82 years old. His catalyc converter was stolen at night whilst the car was parked on the driveway a month ago. So far, we have got absolutely no where with Hastings Direct. No courtesy car has been mentioned or provided. No repairs have been booked. They continue to claim they are 'so busy'. Not to mention how difficult it is getting through to them on the phone. My grandad has been left with no mode of transport for a month and is unable to take his terminally ill wife to hospital for check ups - Hastings Direct simply do not care. I really hope they can turn this around soon and I would consider removing the complaint, however based of our experience so far I find that highly unlikely. Shame on you Hastings Direct.
