Good points .... freindy staff. Decent value. Bad points ...... understaffed. Had to wait quite a while to order, then we could see the food was left on the service hatch area for around 10 minutes before it was brought over to our table. Which meant some of it was not so warm any more. The service staff were running around alot and it was busy ish. Of what we ate, the starters chicken wings and the nachos were good. The squid not so good, very thin slither of squid and too much breadcrumb batter, all we could taste was batter! Ribs were tasty, 1/2 chicken a little dry.
I like the concept of having a salad bar and then order food...it is possible to eat quite healthy, or you can eat slow cooked ribs or burgers. But you always have the salad bar! Staff is nice, a bit overwhelmed it seems sometimes. Overall good place for dinner.
Visited at lunch time on Sunday, not too busy when we arrived, were seated fairly promptly. The server was a trainee, he was polite but needs work on his server skills our plates had not been cleared when the bill arrived I personally don't agree with this order of service. Overall the experience was as expected , good salad bar and mains came out in good time.
I am quite fond of the Harvester but two incidents put me off. The first time was when I was accidentally served raw ribs: the staff were amazing and luckily I only had one bite and no ill effects, but still... Unfortunately last time I had a friend come to visit we went for breakfast. We arrived at 9.30 and were seated, had our coffee by ten and finally were given our food just after 11 - by which time the breakfast bar and toast machine were cleared away. Now we were sitting by the tills, and were repeatedly assured our order was on its way for almost two hours. It became hilarious by the end and my guest said it was the worst service he had ever experienced. I then told him about the raw ribs... The problem is the Harvester staff are in the main great folks, and the food decent enough and fairly priced. It is therefore perhaps unfair to highlight the two worst experiences I've had over the eight or so meals that were just fine. I did not get ill from the raw pork, and the waitress who ignored us for hours has no doubt moved on to better things by now, along with the "just a few more minutes" chap. It's probably ok these days; but I'm not sure I'll try again soon... So in essence good place but when it goes wrong it is spectacular...
Didn't really feel welcome to this restaurant to begin with, however our waitress was very helpful. The portion sizes were okay, but for the price being paid seemed rather small. The biggest let down was the salad bar - at 7:40pm i would have thought they would have kept it stocked up - unfortunately it was rather empty when we arrived and it was never replenished. A bit more effort is required here!
Normally the harvester do good food, however when we went, food was either undercooked or overcooked. The service was slow, and several people in our party felt ill after going. A partial refund was given which we appreciated, however it has put us off returning. Salad bar was the only saving grace. We did go late at night 8-9pm but this shouldn't result in poorer food and service.
We were seated, then forgotten about for over half an hour. Eventually a waiter came to take our order. He then came back 5mins later because he had forgot what we ordered. Half an hour later, we are still sat waiting, no waiting staff offered any explanation or apology. We told the waitress we will leave in the next 5minutes if we don't receive our order as we had been sat for over an hour now. 10 mins later, still no sign of our order so we decided to leave. A waitress came over and demanded we pay for our drinks. We then complained about the poor experience and service we had received. The waitress became extremely rude, offered no apology and blamed us for her actions as we chose to leave. Absolutely disgusting service. We will not return.
As a middle class OAP foodie type with adult children and no grandchildren yet it's not really my type of place. However, I have been 3 times in the last year. The salad bar offsets some faults with the food; the breakfasts are excellent value; and the staff have always been pleasant and helpful.
Would give it -1 stars if I could. In an almost empty restaurant, we had a 1 hour wait for main courses and salad bar empty for the majority of the wait despite multiple staff walking past it and seeing the state of it and various people telling waiting staff it was empty. Kitchen staff could also see it from where they were stood chatting. 2 meals left on the hot plate for over 15 minutes while waiting for the other 2 meals to be ready. When we complained the waitress asked "what am I supposed to do about it?! It's here now" This is not in anyway acceptable..
Horrible food. Burger had been cooked god knows how long before and reheated. Place was empty and it was a Sunday. How long does it take to cook a burger? On top of that the lettuce was old and discoloured and the portion sizes were miniscule. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
