Absolutely superb, would give ten stars if I could. We went for afternoon tea, the customer service from start to finish was impeccable, the food was delicious and the best mocha I have tasted. All served in impressive surroundings, it was like stepping back in time. This is an experience you cannot miss. We were made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Well done all at Hartwell House, we will be back.. Food & drinks: Excellent food and drink, all served spectacularly.
Came here for afternoon tea. Absolutely gorgeous property and food was delicious. Only suggestion would be for better signage/instructions on where to park for the afternoon tea as there is a barrier which suggests hotel room reservations only so we parked in the car park for the day Spa but it made for a long walk for my partner who is disabled. A small bit on the booking email saying where to go would be handy. Food & drinks: Delicious afternoon tea and Prosecco. 3 different sandwiches, mini quiche, scones, sponge, chocolate ganache, chocolate and cherry macaron and passionfruit meringue tart
This was an excellent experience. We went here for a spa day, followed by afternoon tea. Firstly, the facilities are excellent and of high quality. The pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are great. The gym is also good. The afternoon tea was wonderful and very tasty. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The house and grounds are stunning. I’d definitely come back here.
We have just arrived back from Hartwell House and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food was outstanding and the staff extremely helpful and accomodating. The house itself is very well maintained with large grounds and a beautiful lake to stroll around. The spa facilities are very nice with a large heated pool and a jacuzzi.Rooms: 5/5
Beautiful place and surrounding. The spa is nice and the massage was amazing. Staff are very professional, friendly and accommodating. However, the food is not what we expected...average. There was nothing about the food that made me want to go back, hence we cancelled lunch the following day and decided to go elsewhere.
Joined the spa again as a member with family and it’s still totally amazing. Love the addition of the tea/coffee area and feel so relaxed here. Above all the staff are friendly and welcoming and make the spa an absolute gem. Outstanding *****Service: 5/5
Stunning Place. The lady who gave me my massage was lovely and it felt amazing, the staff were very friendly too. The food was also very tasty. I do have a couple of irritations though. Firstly, the hand sanitizer when you enter the main hotel for tea, is highly pungent with the smell of some sort of perfume that triggered my allergies and started to make me my eyes water and started to make me cough so much that I had to use thr toilet to wash my hands. Non fragranced sanitiser would be more suitable for people with sensitive skin. Secondly, when I was sat down at my table, the service lady handed me the menu saying this is the tea I'll be having and then said can they offer me a glass of champagne, prosecco or juice. I said, a prosecco please. Upon leaving the premises after I had finished, a receptionist came running out advising that I hadn't paid for my prosecco which took me aback since I thought it was free as the service lady said may I "offer you." I also would have no problems paying for a glass except that it was £10!! £10 for a small glass of prosecco! In this state of economic problems we're all having, I would never dream of wasting £10 for such a small amount of drink and I think it was a bit crafty to make it seem like it was apart of the tea by using the words may I offer you. Other than that, it would have been 5 stars otherwise.
Had a wonderful birthday spa day with massage and afternoon tea. Absolutely stunning place with no detail missed. Thoroughly one of the most beautiful places I've visited and would return to as the pleasure and relaxation of the day was an absolute treat.Service: 4/5
We stayed for a night in late November. The building and grounds are spectacular - do leave time to walk around if the weather is good. The downstairs rooms are magnificent, and the fires were a nice touch, although the wood fire in the hall made the whole place smell a bit smoky. Our top-floor bedroom was large and comfortable, although the decoration felt a bit stuffy and didn't succeed in getting the room cool enough to sleep well. There's a lot of stairs, plus a lift if you need it. The staff are friendly, and always around. Booking online was a bit bumpy it seems optimized for an older age; prices high. We had dinner in the onsite restaurant: the setting was wonderful, the food expensive for what it was - nothing outstanding e.g., a boring amuse bouche; poor temperature control. Breakfast was amazing, though.
We had a great one-night stay at Hartwell House. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room – we chose one of the Royal rooms on the 1st floor, expensive but worth it – was very large with high ceilings, had a huge bed and plenty of useful furniture; the bathroom was OK one sink, not big, shower in the bathtub. Don't expect a modern decor – this is a stately home, with lots of original detailing carefully preserved. The food in the restaurant was very good. Maybe the hotel has responded to earlier reviews: there was a good vegetarian menu for dinner, with three options for starter and three options for the main course, and the options we chose were delicious and a good portion size. Just be aware that if you book the "dinner bed & breakfast" option the price includes only 2 courses, so you pay extra for the delicious dessert. Breakfast the next morning was good and plentiful. The spa has a large pool which is obviously intended to be a quiet place. There's also a fitness suite. We stayed one Sunday night in early autumn. The hotel was very quiet, and most of the guests elderly. There was a definite Jane Austen feel to the whole experience! If you want somewhere with more of a buzz and modern luxury then go to Chewton Glen. But for a quiet and restful stay in a welcoming and comfortable stately home close to London, with good food and lovely grounds, then Hartwell House is a great find.
