Story

At HARP Funeral Services the focus is on providing a highly personal and sympathetic service for when it matters most.
HARP Funeral Services comprises of three well respected and trusted funeral directors with strong ties to Merthyr Tydfil.
Raymond Iles & Sons was established in 1985 by the father and son team of Raymond and Carwyn Iles, who re-located from Cefn Coed to a purpose built funeral home at The Harp on Swansea Road in 2000, while retaining an office at 141 High Street, Cefn Coed.
In 2003, Raymond Iles & Sons teamed up with Allan & Derek Davies Funeral Directors of Pant Road, Dowlais, prior to being joined in 2008 by Kenneth James of Alfred James & Sons Funeral Directors of Twynyrodyn, the oldest established funeral directors in Merthyr Tydfil.
It was at this time that the redevelopment and modernisation of the memorial workshop premises at Court Street, was carried out with the installation of a display window.
In 2009, Dafydd Iles, a third-generation family member, joined the company after completing his A-levels at Cyfarthfa High School.
In 2011 he gained a degree in funeral services followed in 2013 by a diploma in embalming, making him the only funeral director in Wales to hold both these qualifications.
A major re-development of the Chapel of Rest on Pant Road, Dowlais, took place offering a state-of-the-art funeral home, which is now the ‘Tŷ Davies’ funeral home dedicated to the memory of Allan Davies and in honour of Derek Davies, both of who are held in high esteem by the local community.
This Funeral Home setting is so welcoming and comfortable that it immediately puts mourners at ease, even during this most difficult of times.
Colours are soft and soothing, with attention to detail and thoughtful design, all underwritten by a knowledgeable staff whose role is to support and nurture families through one of life’s most emotional experiences.
