We're staying not far from here and planned to visit this castle as a part of our trip. With an initial trouble to find a parking spot, then climbing the steepest road in the UK, we managed to get there. The castle is a well maintained with, at the time of our visit, volunteers dressed for the atmosphere and teaching kids some medieval arts. We enjoyed the views and walks.
A lovely old castle with plenty to see. Stunning views if you can climb the narrow stairs. Plenty of information boards around giving the history of the castle and how people lived there. There's limited parking that belongs to the council not the castle. The road to reach the castle is very narrow and has a few sharp uphill turns!!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Enjoyed the walks around the castle. Dogs welcome but only ground floor. Stunning views from the top. Small car park got busy quickly. Best to go early. Nice cafe and gift shop.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Great place to visit. So much of the castle is still intact too. Stunning views all around, being so close to Snowdon. Staff very helpful and friendly. Easily accessed for disabled although would not be able to visit battlements. A Great fun place for children to explore.Visited onWeekend
Really loved this castle; great place, great views, awesome reenactment and period costumes when we went. Great atmosphere and sense of history you can touch and see. Be careful with children here, low barriers on high walls!Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Traveled by train . Very pretty journey. The station is 'just' below the 'crag' on which the castle is perched. I mentioned this because, if you decide to walk to the top , take it easy.. .. It's very good exercise. After a rest , strolled, through the historic castle, soaking up the story. Until it was time to climb to the battlements . , more cardo exercise but worth it . The views are exceptional. After..., a nice relaxing coffee in their cafe.
Whilst we were somewhat disappointed with the town of Harlech itself, we were more than happy with the castle. Very nice visitor centre as you enter with the usual gift whop. The castle is in ruins but the walls are mainly intact and if you are feeling energetic you can climb to the top of them. From there you are treated to spectacular views. It is very easy to understand the tactical importance of the castle from the top of the walls. We found it very well worth a visit.
Great day out as a family. Cafe and gift shop on site. Toilet facilities too! Car park pay and display. Overall a great day out steeped in history and you can even climb the turrets! Amazing views of harlech, the beach and surrounding areas. Great funVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Such an amazing place to visit. A well maintained castle where you can walk along the ramparts and just imagine what it must have been like to have lived and fought in the of knights I'm armour and the harsh conditions. There is a lovely cafe after your visit and a shop for some mementoes to take away.
Much more to walk around than you might think. You can walk around almost the entire top of the castle walls, wind depending I guess. Quite a few steep stairs in darkish towers, very atmospheric. There is a one way stair system which we weren't told about on entry, so we went the wrong way, got lucky it was a quite day there. Fantastic castle that is cared for by the right people.
