What a lovely garden centre. The Christmas stock is now on sale as well as many other items. Prices to suit all budgets. The gardening products are great. There's also a lovely restaurant. Yes certainly worth a look.
We are on holiday in st combs and would have loved to visit your garden centre ,unfortunately you do not allow dogs in ,other than guide dogs and assistance ones. There is no law saying they are not allowed into establishments only down to the owners of said establishment..Such a shame because you are missing a trick by turning down custom. In these times every penny counts please rethink as most dogs are better behaved than children.
Great variety of plants available in the garden centre, and some lovely gifts in the store, The food and service was brilliant in the restaurant. Cream of Cauliflower soup was amazing, hot and very tasty.
My husband had a lovely scone, unfortunately I had to make do with a slice of gluten toast, as like most cafe/ restaurants they do a couple of gluten free items, but no dairy free. Alas I'm intolerant of both. So easy for a cafe to make a gluten free cake with sunflower/ olive marg and soya milk or even just use warm water if need be, then we'd have a better choice. . They mostly buy in a couple cake bars which are not nice, and they all seem to think we all love peanut butter. I know it's a lot to ask and not everyone has the same intolerance, but it is becoming more common so big audience to buy something nice.
A great selection of plants, home decor, jams, chutneys, biscuits and crookery. Garden decoration to the top. Great brands like Harry Tweeds,Joules, Emma Bridgewater etc Lovely cafe to finish up and catch up and recover energy.
Afternoon tea was excellent , amazing food, great variety. Pleasant surroundings and excellent service.. Having had afternoon tea in quite a few country house hotels, Simpsons is right at the top . Well done
It was not as warm and welcoming as it was pre takeover. Has a more corporate feel to it now, which does make for an easier browsing experience, but it just feels as though it has lost a bit of its character. The prices in the cafe have noticeably increased also.
Great garden centre to wander round, I actually bought some Xmas gifts!!! Then went to restaurant...oh my gosh...vast menu and all looked amazing, lentil soup was finished so went for chicken n mushroom and I must say it was the absolute best soup I have ever tasted.. and I eat a lot of soups...so tasty and filling, I could only eat half a sandwich, you can ask for box for anything you want to take home. Will defo return here, if just for soups!!! Brilliant, hats off to the chef
In the centre of Mintlaw the main roundabout has good signage to the Happy Plant centre. Mintlaw has this superb Garden Centre with a full range of gardening products as well as a clothing range and at this time of year the christmas stock is appearing. There are many gift items throughout. A well stocked cafe is a useful addition with a good selection of meals.
I have visited Happy Plant once a year, every year, for the last decade. Every trip has always been the same; after a morning shower and mug of coffee from my mug I won from placing 2nd in the 1996/97 Lawn Bowls Invitational at the Fraserburgh Bowling Club, me and the wife arrive at Happy Plant just before 10am. We then make our way into the building and picking up some Dowel. The wife uses it to hold up her Tomato Plants once the fruit gets to a size that the poor stem can no longer support I wont waste your time telling you how the dowel to the Tomato Plant is like the Grandparent to their Children, I'm sure you can put two and two together and figure out a wee metaphor. Anywho, I'm not much of a Veg grower, I think any old idiot can rustle up a few potatoes. I am a Botanist, A Horticulture Fanatic, An Artiste of the Outdoors, and my passion is for one small darling in particular. My Begonias. I've oft found that Happy Plant carries a wide, diverse and scintillating array of Begonias, from the Begonia Maculata, or Polka Dot to the commoner, to the toughest species that can survive and prosper all throughout even the harshest winters the shire can bestow on them, Happy Plant has it ALL! After much deliberation, some to-ing and fro-ing, and a smidgen of guilt left behind for the unlucky few not to be picked, and become destined to prosper under my expert tutelage, I had decided on my Begonias, tucked them into my wheeled basket, and payed at the counter. Now so far everything was going exactly to plan, however what happened next shook me to my very core. I wished the ground would have opened up right there below me in Happy Plant, and that Beelzebub himself had took me by the hand and led me away. As me and the wife stepped into the Cafe, to finish of our yearly pilgramage, we were shocked, and appalled to see that there were no sausage rolls left. I REPEAT! No sausage rolls left. Nay on, sort it oot. or I winna be back. i mean it.
