Less than two weeks after spending over £300 on a major service and completing two of three recommended tasks on my car, the yellow engine light activated. When I contacted Halfords Autocentre Beckenham, they informed me a £50 diagnostic fee was required to check if the issue was related to their work. No alternatives were offered, and they made no effort to resolve the situation despite my significant expense. Their lack of accountability has left me unable to drive, forcing me to commute with my toddler via public transport in cold weather. Terrible customer service and a frustrating experience!
Updated review: Arrived 2 days later to fit my new tires after being told to be at 9am, the guy in reception told me it will take 30 to 45 minutes to fit the tires, I've returned after 40 minutes just to find out they only now got the car in and started working on my car and it will take another 40 minutes. My tires were fitted.. But they didn't even care to adjust the recommended air pressure. This place is a joke, never again Halfords...worst experience in a garage ever!!! Stay away from this place at all costs, staff members couldn't care less. Costumer services already contacted. Purchased new tires online to be installed in this branch 4 days ago and got text confirmation from Halfords to be there at the day, got to the place after taking a day off just to find that "Sorry, there was a problem with the ordering system and we did not order your tires and do not have them". A day's work lost with no compensation and only the usual "so sorry". Was told to come back few days later again, I have to take time off my normal work because other people do not do theirs.. Will avoid using this place in the future, shame on Halfords. Be advised
Booked in for a mot. Turned up and they’d cancelled the appointment without texting on a Saturday. I’d paid for a premium service etc which is nothing sort of a scam. I’ll be going local from now instead of a company like this. Dreadful service
I went in to get my oil leak fixed to only then go to another garage a few days later to fix another unrelated problem when they told me Halfords had not fixed the leak correctly and still was leaving through. I asked for a refund which they agreed over the phone for £200 which is great news , but still not received the money after several weeks despite chasing daily ! The team at Beckham seem to be trying and helping out but appears their process, management sign offs and getting simple refunds completed takes longer than it should do leaving me out of pocket financially . Not a great service from Halfords overall and I really do hope they can refund me soon !
Just a really poor attitude from the staff. Only wanted 1 tyre replaced - zero communication from the staff during the appointment, bad attitude when asking for an update basically told to sit down and wait, and 45 minutes for 1 tyre. Recommend to use another branch of Halfords - there are plenty of them around. It'll worth the extra 5 minute journey time
TLDR: Halfords caused an issue with my car and are refusing to pay for it. As a new driver this is incredibly frustrating. On August 6th I took my car in for my first ever MOT and service, paying £236.18 for just the booking, which includes the 5% off from the £49.99 halfords motoring club and free mot it provides. After doing all the repairs they charged me an additional £1544.94 totalling £1831.11. As someone who doesn't typically have 1800+ to spend on a dime I was shocked by the cost, but repairs had to be done right? From the moment I drove it off the lot there has been a rattling sound coming from the front which had only gotten worse. Doing 12 hour shifts for 5 days I almost forgot about it until I drove again one night and there was a huge rattling and rubbing sound. At this point I decided to get my dad to check it out who agreed that something was definitely wrong but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Then getting in contact with halfords the next morning I booked in for them to check it out first thing on 21/06. After at about 0845 I had a younger male at the desk say he will drive it around for 15 or so minutes to find/hear the issue. He then proceeded to do the worst revved up pull off you've ever heard from a little 1.4L peugeot 208, and came back after only a matter of minutes and drove it straight into the shop. Coming out soon after he claimed he couldn't hear anything at all and even tried giving me my car keys back to shove the issue back onto myself. After arguing the issue we agreed they'd take the vehicle into the back to have a deeper look once they have a ramp avaliable. Having left my vehicle with them and waiting for hours I did not receive a call until about 1700 finally advising me I could come collect it, however claiming even after having multiple technicians drive it they couldn't near the noise but had tightened all the bolts they could see. They had further advised me to get a recording of the noise, of which I have about 15 minutes worth now. I emailed them on the 31/08, telling them that the issue has persisted and I have recordings, to which they told me they didn't have any space until 09/09. Looking on the website this is entirely untrue as they had ample space from 04/09 onwards which I then emailed them asking about, waiting to know if I could bring it in then which they never replied to. After not receiving a reply I called up halfords croydon, sumner road, who booked me in for the 05/09 quite happily. Bringing it there the staff were quite helpful and even managed to diagnose the issue, being rubbing of the upper mounts as they were disturbed during repairs evidence provided in the invoice they had sent me which is attached. Finally emailing halfords beckenham for the last time I booked in for 12/09 for them to sort the issue out, only to be told that this isn't something that they would cover as 'it isn't something they touched' during the MOT and full service. Even after arguing, pointing out that it is very obviously something they have caused as it occurred immediately when I brought it home from the mot, and croydon halfords even put in the invoice 'disturbed during repairs', of which there had only been this. The male at the front desk then went onto tell me that it may of been something caused by a knock of effect of the repairs they had done, but even still refusing any responsibility for the issue stating 'that's not how it works' in reference to them paying to fix the issue they have caused. I was then advised that they could only fix the issue if I paid for it, totalling an additional £552 estimated by croydon to renew both suspension front mounts. Overall I couldn't recommend this branch less, having spent an absurd amount of money already with them and them expected me to spend a significant amount more just to fix an issue which they caused.
AVOID AVOID AVOID POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE TEAM AND POOR BECKENHAM HALFORDS TEAM I paid around £285 for a full service and mot. On my arrival I told the Halfords team my heating had stopped working and the coolant kept leaking from the coolant tank. They swiftly returned my car to me the same day and said everything was fine. I said, everything is fine? And they agreed with me. I found that a little odd as I also knew I had one flat tyre that hadn’t been pumped up or replaced. A week later, my car stops working and I discover I need the gasket changed due to the leaking coolant tank. My tyre also needed replacing. This cost almost £3000 and it could have been saved, had the Halfords Beckenham team agreed the coolant tank had be leaking which I have discovered, is a clear indicator when your heating stops working and if not fixed, the gasket goes. I wrote a formal complaint to the Halfords customer service team and had a call with them. On the phone, the guy offered me a 50% refund for the not and service and the cost of one tyre replacement. Later that week I received an email to say I’d only be getting a £100 refund. So I called Halfords customer service team again and they said £100 was more than enough. I will never use Halfords again. Theres clearly a lack of training for the Beckenham team. Just look at the other recent reviews! Go to Kwik Fit in West Norwood, they’ll get the job done. Came here for service and MOT, were honest and recommended me the most convenient option. Very nice staff who seem they actually want to help!
The worst experience in my 20 years of driving! I had a full service and MOT booked for Monday 8th July. I turned up to the centre at 8.15am to be greeted by the manage Raymond who was rude and asked why i have turned up as an email was sent to me at 7.20am to cancel my booking as there was a issue with the MOT machine. I'm fine with the appointment being cancelled but emailing me rather than texting or call seemed strange and to also be rude so something that is not my fault is even more weird. I asked if i could still do my service and Duxback Windscreen & Front Side Windows treatment and he said yes. I was called after around 2 hours with a list of things that needed to be done on my car which seemed strange as my car is only 3.5 years old and very low mileage. I asked for a quote to be sent to me and things like my spark plugs needing be changed and a puncher was mentioned and i suprised as my car had a check over in Feb and everyone was 100% in a good state and I don;t drive my car often. I told them I didn't want to do the work and i would fix it myself. After leaving Halford, i took my car to two different specialist and they laughed at what issues Raymond and his team had mentioned. My tyre was not punched and a small piece of nail was in the groove of my tyre which has not penetrated the tyre at all and my spark plugs were not in any shape in need of a £300+ replacement. Also, while driving home i noticed that my windscreen had dirt line from my wipers from the day before which made me see that they is no way the Duxback treatment had been done. I called the centre and Raymond again was rude when i asked him if he could confirm what it is i'm meant to see when it rains. I ended up speaking with customer services and I had the treatment done in Rushy Green as i thought i could see that the treatment was on my windscreen and the person that did it told me to not use my wipers unless i need to, to allow the treatment to marinate. I'm so disappointed in this garage that thought i have a free MOT to claim i'm paying for one with a local independent garage. Halford will never see me again!
Great service helpful staff did a good service and MOT on Company Van and kept me updated as to its progress. The van now breaks without half an hours prior notice and without a loud Squeak, also the engine is now is only a low diesel clater and smooth compared to the loud clanking and juddering it had been doing It was so bad passers by would turn and wonder where the racket was cameling from.
