A delightful little landmark in the woods, and you don't have to walk too far to find it. From Knott End's Barton Square, I walked along Hackensall Road almost to the end, where an opening on my left took me round the back of the last cottage; from here it only took me two or three minutes along a narrow path to reach the wooden footbridge across a small stream. It's a beautiful spot, especially right now when the spring wildflowers are out and the woodland is filled with birdsong. The footpath continues across open farmland to Preesall. Did not walk all the way because the level but rutted track was very muddy in places after the recent rains appropriate footwear essential. Had to look out for the farm vehicles that also cross these tracks, but it was otherwise very peaceful here and I enjoyed some lovely views across the Wyre countryside.
Nice place to walk along, taking the pathway through the woods by the little snicket behind the cottages at the bottom of Hackensall Road.nnAcross the footbridge you have a choice of continuing straight on to exit by Preesall Bowling Club and onto Park Lane by the old railway bridge by the lake where rumour has it, there's an old steam engine submerged - or, take the path to the right, continuing past the Hall and the lake opposite look out for the nesting storks.nnEventually, you head across the footpath which cuts over Knott End Golf course above the River Wyre and the cottages there.nDrop down to the river footpath, turn right, out of the wooden public footpath gate at the end of the cottages and eventually reaching the Knott End Ferry slipway, a cafe and a craft shop on the corner by the Coastguard lookout.nnThere's a pub The Bourne Arms, by the bus stop where you can follow the road back into the main village street or hop on a bus to either Blackpool via Poulton le Fylde market town, or the small bus to Lancaster.nEither journey takes a little over an hour.
It was a lovely walk we do it quite regularly.
Nice little bridge in a green wood like something out of a Wordsworth poem.
Just a small wooden bridge over a small stream nothing spectacular
