I have always had an inherent love for trains. Steam, diesel and hell, even electric. On a whim I booked the tickets this morning I decided to take myself and my partner here. She's never been on a steam train, so I just had to have her experience it. She was extremely happy, as was I. I decided to opt for us to have the cream tea experience. It's very fairly priced for what you get I mean, tea, scones and a steam train. Scones were incredible, as was the tea seriously, what did they put in that tea. Big shout out the all the staff. From the lady in the shop, to the train staff and Driver & fireman. They were all lovely, and knowledgeable and would help you with anything. Big shout out to Dave, the guard, who was such a nice and funny person. You can tell that he has a passion for the job he does, and he does the job well. Because we arrived a tad late, we ended up in a seat that had no table. The staff were extremely apologetic, but we hadn't a care in the world so we just kept telling them there was nothing to worry about and it just made our experience more unique. The train was busy, which was lovely to see. It was nice to see families out enjoying themselves, and to see children experiencing steam locos for the first time. The joy they showed chimed with the joy I felt when I was a child. It creates a sense of nostalgia, a longing for another time. A time when steam was king and by God, would the engine let you know it. 100,000% recommend for anyone and everyone! Once again, shout out to all the amazing staff and volunteers. They should be proud!
A lovely a couple of hours spent here. The train ride itself is pleasant and the staff, from train guard, to drivers, to signallers and sales staff, engaging and enthusiastic. Particular highlights included a tour of the yard at the top, including various rolling stock, and the beautiful Victorian signal box. Visitors were welcome to stand with the driver at the station to get a close look at the workings of the train, too.
We booked a private carriage for the Santa experience and it is by far the best Christmas activity we have ever done, absolutely magical, so well organised. Took my 9 year old nephew and 6 month old son and they had a wonderful time. The volunteers were welcoming, friendly, passionate and attentive. We can't wait to come back next year, worth every penny!
A lovely branch line that winds it’s way down the valley with excellent views of the river rushing down below. A trip up and down the line last a couple of hours and allows time to spend looking at the splendid scenery, station buildings and platform paraphernalia:-Visited onWeekdayWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedNot sure
It is hard to be critical of the efforts of dedicated volunteers intent on saving a length of old railway line and turning it into a heritage experience. This is not the most scenic run to experience but the efforts of the good folk who put in the hours make it rewarding. We were served a very nice cream tea on our run and it is a worthy addition to the experience.
Great day on the Gwili Fryer. All volunteers friendly and welcoming. A lovely journey through the countryside and a nice fish and chip meal served to your table. Great stuff.
Great place to visit. Very friendly and informative, giving children the opportunity to see inside and explain how the steam engine runs. Enjoyed keeping a look out for a local heron which I spotted sitting in a tree.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A great heritage railway, an odd journey up line then back past the starting station and on towards Carmarthen. Great staff, friendly and helpful. Big changes ahead with the relocation of the main station and start of the line due next year.
Lovely little train stations with beautiful picnic areas, The 50's Steamtrain reminded me of Harry Potter and the old post office train looked as it would back in the 50's. Staff were friendly and very helpful, I enjoyed cream teas with fresh cream and strawberries whilst observing the beauty around me. It was a good afternoon, worth a visit. I will be going back for one of their themed rides. Turn up early if you booked lunch as you might have to pick it up at the station before you board the Steamtrain. Enjoy
Booked this as a last-minute trip on the morning of the activity. It was very reasonably priced and a great place to take our our train-obsessed kids. We’d already passed the older trains at the other station, as you can see them from the road, so they were already asking to go. We booked online that morning, a Tuesday in Summer Holidays, and arrived 20 minutes or so before departure. Parking was a bit tight so makes sense why you are asked to arrive so close to departure time. There was no wait to collect our tickets, and we were informed of the itinerary. The train was busy bot not packed, which was great to see. We headed along the track to the upper station, where the Train stopped and engine uncoupled. It was great watching the train recoupling back at the other end from the platform and inside the carriage. We then stopped a bit further down for 30 minutes where we had our picninc by the traintrack, and we got a chance to look at some of the other older engines on display. We were a bit disappointed the miniature railway wasn’t running, but we got to sound the whistle of the Engine instead! We then travelled back down along through our original starion, where a Diesel engine coupled up and shunted us from the back. We continued on with both engines to the lower part of the track, where there is some big development going on. We travelled back up to our original station where we got off. In total, it was over 2 hours and it was all really enjoyable. The volunteers were knowladgeable and friendly, dogs were allowed in the carriages and it made for a great experience. Great to see so much effort going into these old engines and locomotives and keeping them running, and really hope to see it flourish. Having always had an interest in Railways it’s in the blood!, it was great to be able to share my knowledge with the kids and explain how it all worked, what the signposts mean, what goes on in the signal box, etc.
