We stayed at the Grove House for 4 nights to celebrate my husband's birthday in January 2023. We arrived at seven in the evening, an hour late than we had initially planned. Linda and Jonathan were very patient with us and gave precise directions on how to reach their property. On arrival, we were served homemade Victoria sponge cupcakes and Yorkshire tea. Then we were ushered up to our room, Jonathan and Linda insisted on carrying our luggage upstairs. Now the room, we entered a preheated cozy room ready for guests. The cleanliness of the room and the bathroom was on another level. Keeping a kettle and coffee/tea is a pretty standard feature in most places now, but Linda had gone out of her way to provide not only teas and coffee but homemade biscuits, chocolate, and even a mini fridge stocked with beer, wine, and water. Next to the bed there were extension provided so that we could plug in our devices easily for charging, a feature mostly not found in hotels/B&B. The other thing is that the bathroom was stocked with high quality toilet paper and bath toiletries. We had a great night's sleep in a great bed with a firm yet comfortable mattress. The next morning we were greeted with aromas from Linda's kitchen. Homemade bread, a series of homemade jams,  preserves, sauces, and then the giant full Yorkshire breakfast arrived. And the Yorkshire tea Linda serves is heavenly. After breakfast, we met Penny the friendliest and most lovable dog on earth. Linda gave us maps and tips on what to see/explore in York. We returned home in the evening to find our room had been cleaned, the bed remade, and the homemade cookies and other tea stuff restocked. What a pleasure! The breakfast spreads continued, we had the most amazing fried eggs, smoked Salmon, and scrambled eggs. Nothing was too much trouble for Linda. As hosts, Linda and Jonathan went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcome. Nor were they formal, good-with-their-job kind of people. We sat and chatted and they were genuinely interested in us and ready to share their experiences. The last evening we were not sure about dinner, Jonathan went out of his way to book us at the best pub in the village and the owner said that she accommodated us only because Jonathan had requested. That's the sort of goodwill they have in the village. Now the location of the guest house is great, it's a little way from the hustle of York, and the rest of the days we explored Yorkshire Dales and Linda gave us great tips about local places which we would have otherwise not found. It was one of the best holidays we have had in a long time and we have not come across better hosts than Linda and Jonathan. Just a 5 rating, or saying excellent does not do justice to them. Want to end with Penny, she was part of this experience and we miss her :-
Our favorite place from our holiday in the UK! Linda and Jonathan are wonderful and hospitable, every detail is thought of and they go out of their way to make sure you're taken care of. The location was great, walking distance to local pubs and the train into York. The food was incredible and the room was comfortable and quiet. We will definitely go out of our way to come back the next time we visit England!
The Grove House is a Gem. Linda and Jonathan are amazing nothing is to much trouble for them. They welcome us into there home and the breakfast was delicious. We will definitely go back and stay with Linda &Jonathan again. Not forgetting Penny the dog she is a dream.
This house is truly a home away from home! Linda and Jonathan went constantly out of their way to bestow us with the most wonderful service imaginable in order to do everything to make us comfortable. There is attention to the most minute details: Linda bakes her own bread and biscuits, Jonathan makes the sausages on his own. The rooms show great taste, just as the garden. Everything is extremely clean and well cared for. We would have given more than 5 stars if it had been possible!
This isn't a B & B this is spending a few days with some great friends. Linda & Jonathan & Penny go out of their way to make your stay amazing. The rooms are lovely, the breakfast is awesome and guaranteed to make sure you don't need lunch and they go the extra mile and then some. This has to be the best place we have ever stayed. I would go back just to see Linda , Jonathan and Penny xx
Grove House is truly a gem and one of a kind. Linda and Jonathan truly care about their guests and they are so committed and passionate towards making their guests feel at home. My husband and I had an amazing stay and enjoyed getting to know Linda, Jonathan and little Penny. Such amazing hosts with hearts of gold. The cakes, tea and breakfast served to us were absolutely delicious and my husband loved the sausages. This is truly a 5 star stay! Thank you to Linda, Jonathan and Penny! more. delicious
Linda, Jonathon and Penny welcomed us into their beautiful home like we were family. They treated us to fantastic hospitality with their home cooking and baking. The room was pure luxury and everything about Grove House was immaculate but still homely, friendly and welcoming. Our car was safely garaged when we arrived and there until we left for home. We used the bus service and the train service is also close by too. Linda and Jonathon informed us of times and locations for both. Such a lovely couple we spent a good period of time chatting about most topics with them, it appears we share some similar ideas and views on many subjects. A pleasure to meet them and share their house, garden and company. We will be back to stay again hopefully soon. Grove House B & B provides an ideal base to explore York and other places in this part of the World. Dined first night at the White Horse in Upper Poppleton on Linda’s recommendation, the pub, the meal and the service were all great and we would recommend that too!! Thank you again. We stopped at Grove House for a few days, coinciding with my Birthday. Linda and Jonathon gave us a very warm welcome, and I was treated to a slice of cake on arrival!! Grove House is very clean and well kept. Linda and Jonathan are marvellous hosts, very conscious of your needs. The rooms are very cosy, and extremely comfortable. The breakfasts are absolutely top notch, I had full English, with the most delicious sausages, and bread for toast that Linda had baked herself. Other options are available. Grove House is in close proximity to the train station about 5 minute walk, with trains to York running every hour about 8 min journey. All in all I cannot recommend Grove House highly enough. It ticked all the boxes, and if ever in the area again, would not hesitate to book again. My thanks to Linda and Jonathon, for a wonderful stay.
Another truly wonderful visit to this charming wonderful B&B. Linda and Jonathan made us feel so welcome as soon as we arrived. We cannot put into words easily how much we enjoyed our stay. Fantastic breakfast which you can choose how many eggs, rashes of bacon etc you would like. The sausages and preserves are all home made. Use of their garage so your car is safe, we visited in November so the car was warm and frost free. Our room was spotless and included many complimentary items we were not expecting. Fresh milk each day in our room for tea and coffee, so much better than the plastic pots other B@B's and hotels give you. Linda recommended the white horse for eating and we were not disappointed. It about 2 minutes walk from Linda's. The train station is about 10 minutes walk with York about 7 minutes away. We have already booked to return for Easter 2022 and cannot wait. The perfect quiet location for your York holiday or long weekend. Amazing !!
Loved staying here. Highly recommend. Jonathan and Linda are perfect hosts not forgetting little Penny, the sweetest dog. Food was amazing, fantastic breakfasts, homemade cakes, bread and shortbread! Spotless and super friendly too. I would easily give another star!
