Our expectations were exceeded visiting here. We felt it was accordingly priced too. The staff were brilliant and kept our daughter interested with great information that made her excited as she loves gems and stones. She was fascinated with what he told her. We all had a great visit. It's not a long experience but great and interesting.
Wasn't quite what I was expecting , once down the staircase into the mine you are in a round cavern at a guess 15 foot diameter with half a dozen entrances leading off into mining areas , you can crawl about 6 foot into these and then a barred gate stops you entering further but you can see inside because of the lighting . you have to wear a hard hat before climbing down the steps , these have a wheel tightening system so no chin strap a genius invention The gift shop is ok and the small information area was very informative . You will probably only spend an hour here but the price reflects that . There are a few picnic tables next to the gift shop so would be a great place for a picnic and plenty of grass area for kids to run around . I would still recommend a visit if you're in the area as the history of the mines was very interesting
It was a spectacular and very interesting for me I love history and archeology. However, I can recommend to others too, because it is a pretty adventurous place, and somewhat unusual, therefore interesting and fun. The best way to visit is by buying an English Heritage memberships ticket, however, a one time entry ticket also costs less than £10.
This is a gem of a place hidden away. Brown signs lead you to a single track rood to the site, the car park is a bit uneven so watch when you park. There are toilets as you come on to the site. The shop has your normal English Heritage selection. The exhibition is very informative and gives a good history of the site and there is a guide book if you want more. The climb into the pit is easy but it's a bit cramped if you look into the off shoots. A fantastic bit of history
Brilliant place, my son is currently studying stone age and the organisers let him hold, look at and photograph the prehistoric items they had. Very kind and helpful staff and the underground access was very straight forward with good safety. The small museum area they have is just enough to get a grasp of what prehistoric times were like and a great little shop to top it off with nice gifts.
Amazing site! Grimes Graves is a hidden gem, this is a truly unique site with a fascinating history. The exhibition is small but detailed, giving a thorough overview of the site. The mine shaft itself is incredible to go down into and not something you'd expect to find in Norfolk.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
I didn't know what to expect at Grime's Graves, yet I couldn't have been more pleased with what I found. The small visitor's center was very informative and wonderfully interesting. Their gift shop was very topical and well stocked. Best of all, the staff were clearly dedicated and genuinely interested in what they did. They were professional and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend visiting Grime's Grave should you ever have the chance.
Fascinating place if you're into geology and prehistoric lifestyles. Go deep into an original flint pit to see the different layers of rocks.
I would like to thank the man who explained us EVERYTHING today at 2 pm Tim? The mine itself is very interesting but he made it even more interesting for us, he even gave us some advice ablut Castle Acre, which was very useful for us.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This is one of only 4 mines of its type that are open to the public in the world. There is a very small exhibit and shop near the entrance and then you descend down a steep rig into one of the excavated mines. It's humbling to think that the items lay undiscovered down there for so many millennia. Something which the English heritage staff mentioned and showed us from a text book that really stunned me was evidence of a fingerprint from one of the Neolithic miners on an antler pick that was found leaning against a wall. That sort of detail is thought-provoking and could form the basis of part of the exhibits. I would give this 3.5 stars if I could. Genuinely lovely and passionate staff let down somewhat by lack of interactive exhibits I can only guess that the space they have available onsite is very limited. We were told that a virtual tour is under development, which I hope will give a sense of the scale of the excavations which you can only glimpse through metal bars. No cafe but a small vending machine. Very basic toilets portaloos with no handwashing facilities.
