Dramatic clifftop location. Google maps takes you to a grassy parking area. From there a path around the field takes you to the castle easily visible from parking area. Or you can walk on down the lane to your left South and double back on the Ayr Coast Path to approach from the beach. Atmospheric Castle perched on the edge of the hillside. Reached by a short walk along beach or road via the cycle path. Fantastic views.Visited onWeekend
There is a car park about 10 minutes walk from the castle easily found on Google maps. We went the beach route to the foot of the rocks at which the castle stands. The first route up is quite steep and could cause a problem if your balance isn't great. There is another route up just a little bit over from the first route up which is alot easier. Once at the top of the rocks where the castle stands you are graced with a beautiful view of the Firth of Clyde and surrounding areas. Unfortunately the castle entrance is blocked off which is a pain but the castle is still worth a visit if you are in the area.
Beautiful views of the coastline. The castle itself isn’t accessible, but the views from the hill are unbeatable. It’s quite steep with a severe drop off and was very muddy. So make sure to wear the correct footwear. There were several people out walking their dogs when we were there. Beautiful walk along the beach with stunning views of the town. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. You can access from either the field or walking along the beach. Unfortunately you can’t access the castle as it has been bricked off but there is a few bricks missing which allows you to see inside. A beautiful section of the Ayrshire coast.
Old castle near the waterfront. The way to the castle is either by the beach or walk next to a muddy field, but it is possible to get to the castle just be aware of it is a bit slippery when it is wet. Nice view over the city
Visited last week didn't get a view from beach walked through a field to get to it how I didn't get bitten alive I will never know was bug centrel!! Nice views tho
Lovely castle tower located at Greenan shores. A short walk from Craig Tara caravan park. Stunning sea views and view of Arran.
The castle is rather underwhelming, it’s more a tower ruin. But the beach was nice without any other people.
