Green's Mill and Science Centre

About

This working windmill is the only inner city windmill in the UK, producing award winning spelt and wheat flour. Paired with the George Green Museum and Science Centre the site provides a fun and free day out for the whole family.

Story

Built in 1807 by a Nottingham baker, this windmill was inherited by his son George, who would later become a famous mathematician.

After a period of neglect the mill was restored and reopened in 1985, with milling starting again in 1986. Today the site has become a vibrant area of entertainment and discovery.

Buy award winning organic flour from the volunteers in the shop and find out about the workings of the mill from the miller. Learn about Green's Theorem and try to solve the puzzles in the Science Centre. Follow one of the trails or join in an activity. There's something for all the family!

Absolutely amazing place.. Great staff and good stuff. The windmill was not working because of some maintenance work, but they got a small science gallery that was interesting. They have a small kids play area as well. Good place to spend quality time.
Free entry, with a £5 donation. There are plenty of activities for kids to do, making it a great place to bring your children on weekends. The staff provides excellent service and good recommendations.

Wonderful to see the actual equipment used to grind wheat into flour with excellent explanation and video. Information about George Green and his contributions to math and physics was absolutely amazing and fascinating. He was 120 years ahead of his time.
Great place, the volunteers are all very kind, we found the museum free, it's small but really niceVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Beautiful old windmill. You can go up to different floors very steep stairs! and see how it all works. There’s a small science museum with interactive bits, highlighting the work of George Green who worked in the windmill and did scientific research there, despite leaving school at the age of 9. Nearby is a fantastic playground making it perfect for a visit with kids. £5 donation requested to keep the windmill and science museum going, which we gladly made.
It's a lovely, interesting place to go and visit. We went for the easter biscuit making which was so beautifully ran and my little boy enjoyed it, and the science pieces3 we couldn't go up the windmill though as stairs were very steep and I had my 7mo with us. The community garden is also a lovely little place to visit. There is a little park opposite too, but don't expect to be here for more than 2 hours.
Recently did group baking session here for around 10 adults, and whilst they don't often do adult groups, it was executed perfectly. They bulked up the ingredient portions and there was plenty my pizza ended up being 2 meals, despite our ticket prices not changing! Plus they catered for dietary requirements well. We got a fab tour of the windmill and enjoyed looking round the science centre and the garden as well. The whole team there are excellent, thanks for making our visit great!
Green's Windmill is a lovely patch of green space in the heart of the city centre. There is a great play area at the foot of the mill and behind the mill is a wonderful community garden which is hidden away. The mill has a lot of history and is great for looking around. Sadly at the time of writing this review the sails are being repaired and the windmill is not operating. When it does the shop sells flour from the mill. A great place to visit.
