Been using this Chinese for couple years and always been great but after not having it for a few months I decided to order and was very disappointed, food tasted bland and very salty, prices have increased which I understand but £3.60 for chips and from my picture what I received - tasted stale and like they have been cooked more than once. Also asked for prawn crackers which are normally free but got charged for them. Their menu does not show prices for all items either.
Great food, staff are wonderful, slightly expensive.
Since covid they don't seem interested, no specials board just the same menu from 20+ years ago. The food was not great,beef in blackbean with peppers was peppers in blackbean with beef and the chicken was very anemic,it seemed like the frozen pre-cooked stuff. It's a shame because it's only a short walk from where I live,but next time we'll go further afield.
Another great meal after a long absence, still welcomed as friends.
Well if you want budget food at top restaurant prices then look no further , heavily fried over cooked starters dripping in batter no fresh authentic ingredients or tastes whatsoever all washed down with a flat beer ,I think the barrel was last changed and the hose line cleaned back in 1992.! with that I eagerly waited on the most uncomfortable seat whilst bizarrely listening to nelly the elephant playing as background music out of 2 car speakers stuck to the ceiling it was at that point my enthusiasm of tasty fulfilling meal left my body . Before the mains came the waiter picked bits of food that had fallen off the plates for the starters with his hands which was a nice touch very classy . Quite disappointed won’t go back not sure how this place will stay open with the slop and the attitude they are serving out of this restaurant. Oh did I mention after we ordered out starters we wanted to eat and decide what we wanted for a main course however that seemed to upset the waiter and manager greatly as they began a heated conversation about us infront of us in Chinese in raised voices as to why we wanted to wait to choose our mains once our starters had arrived .all in all the best part of last nights meal was saying goodbye to it down the toilet this morning .... first last and only visit for me stop serving the cheapest ingredients put some love into ur cooking and on weekend evening you may have more than 2 tables full !!
First time ordering from here. Really lovely food & service. So glad I found this place. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian Singapore noodles were lovely.
Ah, The Great Wall of Rochford. A big miss during these past 5 months or so. Good to be back in the usual pleasant atmosphere and excellent food as usual. Long may you continue.
Our family ordered a takeaway last night, for 10 people. Was told 50-60 mins, as we didn’t mind coming out for collection but was assured that it would be no longer than an hour. The food turned up 40 minutes late, so when we negotiated a discount they took the food away to throw it in the bin. Very bad attitude and was told that they have been there for 20 years and do not need our custom, this is the second time now this has happened. Always use to go, but will no longer be ordering or going to the Great Wall. Honesty is a big thing and we would rather have been told the truth about the wait. It is a shame to see what once was a very good restaurant/takeaway go for money and pride over a happy customer. Will not be recommending
We had a takeaway yesterday eve, delivery driver arrived pretty quick! He was very polite, very nice chap. The food was excellent we will definitely use The Great Wall again! Barbara Close
Amazing Chinese, always hot, very flavoursome and the staff are really friendly.
