Normally good but had a number of dishes last night which all tasted the same and bland. Shame as 80% of time it's really good. Maybe we just have to factor in that sometimes it will be a miss not a hit.
Delicious Chinese takeaway, friendly service and quick. Ordered over the phone and only took 20mins although it was a Tuesday. The food was very high quality. My husband said it was the best Shredded Beef he's ever had! The Shrimp Chow Mein was extremely yummy. Also the shrimp toast was fantastic.
After initially being disappointed with the quality of food from the new owners. I stopped going here. I returned a month ago and the last three takeaways I have had have been exceptionally good. The food has now improved hugely and It is back to being my go to Chinese takeaway in the area. I would suggest it is better than ever. Thank you for the improvement.
While the Great Wall isn't as great as it was under its old owners which was the best Chinese takeaway myself and my American BFF ever had, it has certainly improved since last year. The portions of rice and noodles were very good, although there was about half as much sweet'n sour pork Hong Kong style that I would have expected, and the noodles and meat felt like they could have been cooked a bit better the chicken felt a bit tough, the pork a bit undercooked, and the noodles felt a bit too oily. As the person I interacted with was very nice, I don't want to give the Great Wall a negative review, so I will say: it's not great as it was under the old ownership, but it is still perfectly satisfactory, and I think most people would be generally satisfied or, at least, not disappointed if they wanted some Chinese food, happened to be in the area, and decided to stop by.
Contrary to some other reviews I have found a lot of the dishes to have more flavour since new ownership. Not just more salt and MSG, actual flavour. Always very friendly staff. I guess it might depend on what you order but I would still recommend The Great Wall. I've tried the restaurants around Haslemere and Liphook and lived in London 20 years. It is certainly no worse than most others I've had in the same price range. It's not really Chinese food, none of the takeaways are, but on the grand scale of things I think it's still worth frequenting.
Wow what a change, new people have taken it over, I have been using this Chinese for many years 30 mile round trip because its the best around, I was greeted by a happy gentleman but quickly realised it wasn't the same lovely old owners, He promised the food better than before and that's a big statement, it wasn't in the slightest it was greasy and bland and so expensive unfortunately still charging the same as previous owners with terrible food, I'm paying for it today and my sons not at school, Goodbye Great Wall but I won't be returning, if the old owners see this thanks for many yummy years and I wish you the best in retirement. Some advice for the new owners its lived off an amazing reputation please don't spoil it your food needs looking at.
The best Chinese takeaway in Surrey! The fact that it's been around for a couple of decades speaks volumes. Food is always hot, consistent and delicious, there's always plenty, too. The owners are really friendly and extremely accommodating regarding my life-threatening nut allergy – they always remember the issue and ensure my food is safe each time we order.
Been going here for a good number of years. Wonderful food, wonderful people who run it and always quick with orders, even at the busiest of times.
I like Chinese food. Have bought here regularly. Would score a 5 on many occasions but they rarely have a bad day hence 4 stars. I regularly recommend this take away to friends.
New Year's Eve spoiled :- We ordered at about 6pm and they said they were busy and that it would be ready at 7.40. Called nearer the time and they said 7.50. Arrived on time and paid, then to be told it wasn't ready yet. Another half hour wait in the shop before I could collect and leave only to get home and find chicken gf noodles instead of the veg gf we ordered, so my daughter had to go without. I know they were busy but they should have been honest about the delay and let me know it wasn't ready BEFORE asking for payment. God help anyone with allergies or dietary requirements. I won't chance it again.
