My husband and I had lunch there today and whilst the food was delicious the portion size of my husbands vegetarian main course was seriously small. Being a fussy vegetarian he asked if he could have the mushroom risotto advertised as an intermediate course as his main. Although they kindly obliged we didn't feel the quantity had been increased to reflect this. Having spent almost £300 including drinks you don't expect to leave feeling hungry. On the plus side the staff were amazing from the moment we arrived to leaving the service was exceptional.
Beautiful beautiful gardens and food. Whimsical and almost dream like. Staff are very welcoming and lovely. However having them stand outside can be a little intimidating especially when arriving without reservation and your fate lies in their hands before even entering the building. Highly recommend booking in advance around May time when everything is coming into bloom.
Excellent! Wonderful setting; dining room is a masterful transition from the grand period country house hotel which transports you into the heart of the garden in all its glory and colour. The cuisine is a perfect match, wonderfully presented and deliciously prepared with a wine list to match. Attentive and efficient service. A very enjoyable experience.
Absolutely faultless location, food and service. We had lunch to celebrate our wedding, and loved the place from the moment we arrived. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We enjoyed lovely cocktails in the garden before heading into the pretty dining room. Our food was superlative – seasonal, fresh, interesting and phenomenally tasty my soufflé dessert was my standout dish. We had a lovely wander around the grounds to aid digestion – a trip to the kitchen garden should be mandatory, to see the amazing produce they’re using – coffee and petit fours in the garden was the perfect end to a lovely day. Would visit again in a heartbeat.
This was a surprise birthday treat for me! The whole experience was delightful. From the warm greeting upon arrival to the lovely gardens which we walked in prior to lunch and enjoyed a glass of champagne in. The menu, food, drinks and service were excellent. Couldn't fault a thing ...which is unusual these days.
Sunday 31st July 2022 We have always loved and enjoyed Gravetye Manor over the last few years however Sunday was a major disappointment. The meal which usually superb was really not up to standard . the Beef for lunch was a cheap cut of meat and very chewy. One in the party had the chicken dish , he had one of the tiniest pieces of chicken I have seen. The roast potato’s were cold , hard and dry and tasted as if they had been cooked the day before. One of the party had fish again he was still Hungary as the plate was so small. When ordering one of the party wasn’t sure if she wanted dessert was told order now or you can’t have one. The staff were not unpleasant but there was certainly a different atmosphere to the previous times we had gone and didn’t seem to be over bothered. We did mention at the time about the meat and potatoes and were told it’s the time of the year for poorer quality !! . The shame was that 2 of the party had never been to the restaurant and leafy saying they would not return . The price was extortionate considering the poor quality of the produce . I am really quite upset as up till now it has been one of my favourite places to visit . We had a table booked with another couple in a few weeks but will cancel as I’m sure the same is going to happen again as it’s a short space of time. It’s as if they are giving you poorer quality meals but at top end prices. What a shame
From arrival to departure one is made to feel welcomed. The location is rural and the grounds delightful although, in winter, I always consider the English countryside dure and bleak in the dull light and damp! The new 2019 dining room is one of the nicest and integrates the modern with the old with a success that is rare in modern architecture. Also, take time to admire the wall paneling in the restaurant. My lunch was sublime the dessert menu is especially innovative. The building dates from 1598 and there is only so much that can be done to ease access but parking and washroom facilities were good if one has some mobility e.g., can walk with the assistance of a stick. If in doubt, call the Manor and ask - the staff really are immensely helpful.
We’ve dined here twice and both times it has been exceptional. All courses use seasonal ingredients and are imaginative, beautifully-cooked and well-presented. The bread and butter ‘course’ is memorable ok, we returned for the butter!, amuse bouches and pre-desserts are tiny plates of perfection but the stand out for me was the dessert, both times - a raspberry soufflé I’ve been dreaming about since my first visit two years ago, simple and straightforward, with almond ice cream and raspberry coulis ceremonially dunked in the middle by the attentive staff. One of those dishes that makes you smile for days after. I’m not usually a dessert person but I’d go back and skip the other courses ok, except the bread just for that.
We had an amazing meal! telmo and his team of waiters where attentive and professional and most importantly very friendly and happy, would recommend and will definitely be back for moreRooms: 5/5
An absolutely wonderful place. A superb building surrounded by beautiful gardens. This was my second visit celebrating a special birthday. We were greeted at the entrance before being shown into a pleasant and comfortable reception area. The new restaurant area is beautifully decorated. Both the menu and wine list are extensive and having chosen our food and wine with the help of waiter and sommelier we all enthused regarding how delicious the food and the perfectly matched wine was. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly and overall service excellent. After your meal if possible enjoy a relaxing walk around the gardens. December 2022, another superb three course lunch, as always staff were very friendly, professional and knowledgeable about booth food and wine. My only regrets not enough time to visit the gardens. My next visit can’t come soon enough.
