While hiking in Hathersage, we found the Grave of Little John on the map and decided to visit. The place was nice, and the weather was sunny when we were there. It's clear that people take good care of the site. It was a pleasant stop on our hike.
Beautiful church and lovely walk up to this from the village and with the added bonus of seeing Little John's grave. Definately worth a little amble!
It might all be a tall tale but I like to think he was real. Pretty church but a very steep path to get to it.
Really lovely church. The grave of Little John is a place I enjoyed visiting, but it's not a big fancy grave or ornate gravestone. Great for fans of Robin Hood, but don't expect amazing selfies. The church is stunning, though, and I think it is well worth the visit .
If you like mythical tales and legends of old, then is surely a place to visit if you get the chance. Its never been proved, or disproved that 'Little John' even existed 100%, but everything in a strange way seems to fit nicely.nFolklore as it that this is the final resting place of Little John, who was the lieutenant, friend and righthand man of 'Robin Hood'.nThis well-kept grave can be found opposite the entrance to St Michael's Church in Hathersage, it's of a large size, tidy, with a very clean headstones and surrounded with small ornate railings.nIt's believed that Little John was born in this area and his family home was a humble cottage, not far from the church just to the east.nAfter the death of his good friend Robin Hood and burying him, Little John once again returned back the area, to live out his final day's until he died, believed to be in the mid 14th century.nIts worth the visit if you believe the stories or not, it's a lovely spot, in a lovely area, so enjoy the fresh air and the walk.
