I had a wonderful stay at this hotel during my trip to London. The location was perfect, with the tube station just a short walk away, making it easy to explore the city. While the interior may be a bit dated, the hotel is well-maintained and has a lovely, charming atmosphere. The staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming, Although the superior double room was not as spacious as advertised, it was still comfortable and met my needs as a budget-conscious traveler. Recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a convenient, affordable, and pleasant place to stay in London.
We stayed for one night in February. I had read reviews about the size of the room so had expected limited floor space. For the price in Central London I think my room was reasonably sized. I didn't need anything more than a place to rest and the bed was very comfortable so it met my requirements. The decor was good, clean and well maintained in my room. The room had a lift to the floor it was located on and these areas were well maintained too. The building is gloriously beautiful and reflects a bygone era. I enjoyed the history of the building available in the room. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We left our luggage for the day and this was absolutely no problem for them and really made our day more comfortable. We used the bar which was so ornate and a delight at the end of a busy and crowded. In terms of location, it was exactly what we hoped for. Still central London but at the edge of Hyde Park it was quiet and offered a little oasis of nature in what can be an overwhelming city. I would definitely stay here again! Walkability: You can easily walk to Kensington Palace, The Royal Albert Hall and notable museums like The Natural History and Science Museum.
A really nice hotel and the location is simply the best. 2 subway stations nearby and many bus stations, so it was really easy to reach London's famous places. The hotel was very clean and the stuff was really helpful. The room was a little bit small and cold but convenient though. I surely recommend it for everyone who is going to visit London, and I hope to come back again in the near future.
Must say this is the first time I have ever stayed in a hotel where you enter your room and go up a flight of steps to your bed and the bathroom is at the bottom of the steps. Really dangerous for elderly people or people with limited mobility. But rooms are clean and have all the amenities a hotel should have. The receptionist that checked is in was not very enthusiastic or welcoming. But again other receptionists during our three day stay were smiling and greeted us coming in or out of hotel. Keep this up. Location is great as it is within walking distance from two tube stations. If asked I would still say a good hotel to stay in. Nearby activities: Loads of shops and restaurants and cafes nearby Safety: Fairly safe to walk at night Walkability: Very and Hyde Park is just round the corner. Also a 20 minute walk to Paddington station
Dreadful hotel. Nothing 'grand' or 'royal' about it. Abysmal staff that make you feel unwelcome, absolutely disgusting quality rooms that did not match the photo graphs at all. The air quality was so moist as if theirs damp/mould in the entire place. I think this place needs some serious investigation. In addition, to the thin walls and the strangest layout you will ever find in a hotel, there was building works right outside the room starting from 7am that of course ruined our sleep for our entire stay. I've stayed in thousands of places around the world and this is easily the absolute worst one.
The location is great, there are several subway lines just down the street. The side street also has a lot of restaurants, supermarkets and pubs. The room was very small and the bathroom very very cramped. I have already read in other reviews that the short shower wall in the bathroom is not ideal, that's true, you really have to be careful not to splash the rest of the bathroom sink and toilet are maybe 5cm away from the shower. But apart from that it was a great stay, everything was clean and the beds were comfortable, as we were only in the hotel to sleep anyway and otherwise out and about all day it was fine. What I found particularly great was that when we checked out we were offered to store our luggage and this was done in exchange for a number. In other hotels I had previously experienced that you simply put your luggage in a storage room and take it out again without anyone checking whether it really belongs to you. With the number system, I immediately had the feeling that my luggage was in good hands. Rooms: Small but comfy and do the job for just sleeping there. Very clean. Nearby activities: Hyde Park is just outside the hotel across the Main Street.
I am utterly appalled by my experience at this hotel. This so-called 4-star establishment was nothing but a nightmare from start to finish, with the staff displaying a terrible attitude and a complete lack of respect for their guests. As someone who works in the same industry, I find their level of customer service completely unacceptable, especially considering the high prices they charge. During my stay for three nights in November 2023, I encountered several issues that only added to my frustration. Despite leaving a memo requesting extra towels and informing a receptionist, I received no extra towels. Moreover, when my companion asked a receptionist about the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, the information provided was incorrect. This is a popular tourist attraction, and it is unacceptable that the staff did not know the correct information. The taxi driver knew about the day and time to watch it. However, the most outrageous incident occurred with regards to our room reservation. We had initially booked a room for two nights, but we decided to add another night at a better rate on a third-party website. When I informed the receptionist a day before our original checkout date, he told us that our room had been upgraded, and we needed to move to another room. However, the next morning, a different receptionist told us that our room had not been upgraded, and we could stay in the same room. This was incredibly frustrating and a complete waste of our time. Despite our attempts to speak with a manager or someone with authority, no one was available, and we were just provided with an email address to report the matter when I asked. It is imperative that this hotel takes immediate action to improve its customer service. I strongly suggest that they begin logging all incidents between guests and the hotel in a guest account that can be shared with all receptionists. This is a fundamental requirement for providing excellent customer service, which this hotel is severely lacking. I totally understand why they have low ratings on some third-party websites after I stayed at this hotel. In conclusion, I would never recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. There are better hotels in London.
I stayed with a friend over the weekend for an overdue city break, and it did not disappoint staying at this Grand Royal Hotel. The interior of the building is stunning with some beautiful carvings in the main parts of the building, and to be fair, the exterior is just as beautiful. The rooms are comfy and cosy, with all the modcons. The bathroom is fit for purpose and, for me, was an alright size. But it definitely wasn't planned for two, if you know what I mean. There's a fridge supplied so great for keeping items cold. The front desk staff were pleasant enough, but unfortunately, in the two nights we stayed there, there wasn't a turn down service until we had come back in the afternoon to get ready for our evening out. Not that it's a big deal, but it's worth a mention of you like that sort of thing. The location was perfect for us as we had a pretty relaxed schedule. So to have Hyde Park on the doorstep to get a coffee and a stroll in was perfect. I'd happily stay there time and time again, and I'd highly recommend staying there as it ticks all the right boxes for me, personally.

No fridge Water only on the check in day Constructions all around the building Air conditioning is horrible Building is super old Lounge looks like a refugee camp with the controller on the floor Very small entrance to the rooms and narrow corridors Shampoo and body wash were exactly the same No body lotion provided No sleepers provided No toothbrush or toothpaste provided No hangers even Extremely poor how you even considered to be a 4 stars hotel? How UK give hotels their stars? I give this hotel 2 stars. Avoid at all costs
From a 4 star hotel I was expecting much more. Room Was super small, no elevator. Window was a challange to open and close and it had 2 layers. One old, one plastic. Next time will choose something different. Stars to room was dangerous. Rooms: Small rooms. Friend of mine was on a double room but it was small as well.
