Grampian Transport Museum
"Located in the vibrant village of Alford, just 45 minutes from Aberdeen, the museum boasts an impressive range of transport exhibits, from travelling chariots of the 1800s, to some of the fastest cars ever made.Every season the museum refreshes around one-third of its exhibits – this year's exhibition includes "Kings' Cars", which includes the first car owned by the royal family! Another highlight is 'It's Electric', which gives an in-depth look at the past, present and future of electric vehicles. A few old favourites remain, including our MACK Snowplough, Billy Connolly's Boom Lowrider motortrike and one of our Curator's favourites, the ex-Grampian Police Rover SD1 Vitesse. Our Tea Room serves an array of hot drinks, light lunches and"

My first visit and what an amazing museum. The exhibits were fantastic and enjoyed all the history. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Loved the tea room too! Definitely worth a visit for both adults and children. Lots of amazing outdoor activities too. 100% recommend!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lots to see in such a small space. From vintage right up to modern day. We had a blast. Restaurant services were very slow but everything was. Lean and the food was tasty. Great place for the youngerVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Brilliant dog and child friendly place for a morning/afternoon/day out. Lots to see and do with a good playground outside for the kids, fun activities to keep them interested inside and a free electric car driving experience. Well behaved dogs welcome throughout. Very happy kids and interesting for the adults too.
Nice museum that has lots of old and new cars, lorries, trains, trucks, bikes, motorcycles and lots of stuff to do with transportation. It’s a lot of fun for all ages. Kids get a little task book on which there are pictures of toys. They have to spot the hidden toys and write down the number of vehicle where the toy is hidden.
Excellent museum. Covers the full history of wheeled transport from coaches & penny-farthings to self-driving e-vehicles. Worth the trip! There is a nice tea room at the back, but check the closing time when you enter the museum!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Excellent day out with a fantastic selection on display. Staff were very polite and friendly. Great cafe with tasty food. Some of the lighting was poor and did not make the most of the displays. Overall very enjoyableVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Our little one loved all the different displays, and enjoyed the hint for the Pumpkin men! Staff super friendly amd helpful. Totally different to how I remember it from school trips when I was a kid so worth a visit even if you've been before. Kids can go on some of the exhibits, and the organ is well worth hearing.
Nice time and plenty of vehicles/ bikes on display. Our granddaughter 4 was maybe a bit young to appreciate the collection, but she enjoyed looking for items that had been hidden and crossing them off her sheet.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
This was truly delightful, from the locally produced 19th century steam trike they've also got Billy Connolly's much later motor trike to a Tesla Model S chassis and a huge Mack snowplough. Can't begin to do justice to just how good this is, even if you're not a transport nut I'm more into aviation and sure enough found a Bristol Hercules and RR Griffon engine to please me. There's then-and-now archaeology of the local railway and I loved the display of bicycles, including a couple of penny-farthings and a sociable. BMW's overly optimistic presentation on autonomous cars was quite amusing, but it will doubtless come, just not to their timetable. Cafe's good too and lined with old Matchbox and Dinky toys spotted some of mine. Visit it; you will not regret doing so.
An excellent museum with a wide range of exhibits including cars, vans, bikes, carriages, lorries, steam engines, trams and a steam train. All well displayed and documented.
