An Essential local service to cross between Gosport and Portsmouth during the day. Mainly a pedestrian ferry but bicycles and some bikes are accepted. They need their own ticket though. Toilets are available at both The HardPortsea and Gosport interchanges. Card payment is available at the ticket machines and season tickets can also be obtained from the Gosport booking office when open. Be aware that some tickets and timetables say they do a 7min service, which they don't anymore. This hasn't been the case since before COVID. The crossing takes about 4-5 mins, but if you miss the ferry you'll have to wait till it gets back, so it will be another 15-20mins before you get to the other side. It can be very congested during the 1600-1800 period weekdays. After hours there is a separately operated after hours water taxi on some nights. The tickets for the day service aren't valid on this.
Talk to your fellow passengers. All sorts of folk pass this way.
Great service. Very little waiting. Simplenjourney. Good views. Friendly staff.
Friendly helpful staff - a regular quick come and go 10-15 minute turnaround, cheap and simple system no need to book and a ticket out is a return you can use days appart compared to other ferries. Good views from sundeck.
You can't fault this ferry, it certainly beats a long drive or dangerous swim.
